So let's talk recruiting: who do we feel good about landing for this class as of the beginning of May? I'm going to go with:

Jordan McDonald
Pope
Tayvin Jackson
The Foley kid at TE
Addison Nichols
Fisher Anderson
Cameron Miller
D'Arco Perkins
And I think we end up with Horton

Anyone else? What do y'all think?

Add Kutas and we have the same list.

You back from the Gucci hack? 😏

I need for somebody who wanted Henry T to stay on this team to explain to me in better detail why.

With Bituli by his side - good on a good D (top 30 in total D). Without Bituli by his side - mediocre to bad on a mediocre D (#65). He did not elevate his or the D's play without Bituli. It could be argued he worsened the D's play since he was a leader and play caller.

I get blaming Cornbread, Pruitt, Neids, whoever. But play recognition, getting off blocks, tackling, coverage, etc. are universal activities of any LB in any scheme. Seems to me he could have at least played as well as he did as a freshman due to his own personal effort and development.

He and we needed a fresh start. In my mind we just got an addition by subtraction with him going to Buckeyeville. At least the other guys who did not get to play may have real coaches this time around.

Let's also talk football for a second. Let's say that Heup produces the same results with a QB, be it Bailey or Milton, that he did with Locke or Gabriel. That is, let's say Heupel immediately has an impact on these guys and they throw for 3300 yards, 24 touchdowns, 10 interceptions. That's almost identical to Locke's sophomore stats, the year after he was atrocious only completing 49% of his passes with more interceptions than TD's. It's similar to Gabriel's numbers as a freshman also, though he had more yards and touchdowns.

So let's say that happens, not saying it will, but it certainly isn't impossible. What's our record if we get that kind of production at QB this fall?

Why “ughhh”? I like that possible class, it’s pretty good.
It is alright I guess.. but my care-o-meter is at an all time low lol. I see th basevols over performing and the basketball team with some great players then I look at football and I'm like... Damnit we have a long long way to go

QB play can be the difference from 3-8 wins.

I haven't followed recruiting very much, so I'll defer to you on this list.

Questions:

Would you consider this list to be optimistic?
How many are we going to sign?
How does this list change if we are 8-4? How about 4-8?

No, that's a list of people I'd say we lead for right now with the exception of Horton. I didn't put any reaches on there or hopefuls like Hayden. I don't know how many we're going to sign, will depend on scholarship restrictions. It's hard to answer the last question because, for one, I'm not sure who all of our targets are or what the NCAA stuff will be. I'd say that if we finish 8-4 that will help us more in the '23 class than in the '22 class. If we finish 4-8, I'm not sure that affects it too negatively either. Maybe with guys like Horton and Miller. But I think Heup is telling people not to expect too much year 1.
