I need for somebody who wanted Henry T to stay on this team to explain to me in better detail why.

With Bituli by his side - good on a good D (top 30 in total D). Without Bituli by his side - mediocre to bad on a mediocre D (#65). He did not elevate his or the D's play without Bituli. It could be argued he worsened the D's play since he was a leader and play caller.

I get blaming Cornbread, Pruitt, Neids, whoever. But play recognition, getting off blocks, tackling, coverage, etc. are universal activities of any LB in any scheme. Seems to me he could have at least played as well as he did as a freshman due to his own personal effort and development.

He and we needed a fresh start. In my mind we just got an addition by subtraction with him going to Buckeyeville. At least the other guys who did not get to play may have real coaches this time around.

Did you watch the South Carolina game? We lose that game without him, not that it matters.

Let's also talk football for a second. Let's say that Heup produces the same results with a QB, be it Bailey or Milton, that he did with Locke or Gabriel. That is, let's say Heupel immediately has an impact on these guys and they throw for 3300 yards, 24 touchdowns, 10 interceptions. That's almost identical to Locke's sophomore stats, the year after he was atrocious only completing 49% of his passes with more interceptions than TD's. It's similar to Gabriel's numbers as a freshman also, though he had more yards and touchdowns.

So let's say that happens, not saying it will, but it certainly isn't impossible. What's our record if we get that kind of production at QB this fall?
I think you are going to see stats/numbers regardless because of the tempo/amount of plays/etc. The big question is how the defense performs. In that year you referenced from Lock they were 4-8. The next year, Lock went on an absolute tear throwing for 4000 yards, 44 TDs and 13 INTs....and they went 7-6.

I'd say that would get us 5 wins

Hard to believe that you can have that good of QB play and still only win 4 games one year and 7 the next. That is some bad, bad football being played.

It’s been quite awhile since any decent opponent had to do more than sit back and keep our receivers in front of them...awaiting our eventual self meltdown. A majority of that was scheme and mindset. Our coaches wanted to get the lead and run out the clock. We’ve been witness to the results. Different is better.

Assuming those numbers, it would be important to know if those TDs/points came in bunches, or if the offense is steady and consistent throughout the year.

My biggest fear regarding this offense is that it will be boom or bust in the SEC, kinda like Missouri was with Heupel and Lock.

I would guess that's a 4 or 5 win team given what we know about this defense.

I present to you...Tyler Bray 2012. Doesn't matter how good you are offensively if you cannot get stops on defense.
True that. But we also play in a different league now. No one plays defense anymore. Bama’s defense isn’t even good so who knows

That answers the gist of your question though. If the defense is Sunseri quality, we probably win 5 to 6 games with the QB play you referenced. If the defense manages to be serviceable (maybe average to slightly below average compared to other SEC teams) with good QB play we could win 7 to 8.

For a 3 to 4 win season to happen we'd need a Sunseri quality defense and continue the terrible QB play. Which I hate to say it but that's not out of the question.

He'd easily be the best ILB we had on the field. Do you need more reason than that? Sure, his play dropped last season, but our entire defense was bad. Now we're desperate for ILBs. Too bad Toot, or more to the point, Toot's dad, burnt bridges.

If they want to play in the fall, they have until May 1st to hit the portal. The window closes after May 1 for immediate eligibility.

NCAA is giving a universal waiver this year-- July 1 for all sports, as Devo pointed out.

It creates challenges for a school like UT, which needs to fill holes in the roster-- when other holes may be forthcoming. Guys are waiting to portal out, while putting out feelers behind the scenes to see where they could get a spot.
