1) Jancek left. Elite 3rd down defense.

2) Stength and conditioning coach left. That was one of the defining factors of the 2015 team. An Alabama player said we were the toughest team they had played physically. We had 2 true freshmen on the OL holding back elite UGA pass rushers and held Bama to 19 points.

3) Injuries.

4) Kamara was severely underutilized.

5) Our "player-led" team was not accountable. That wasn't a Butch thing...great coaches such as Saban aspire to a player led team. Obviously something about our implementation or players led it astray.

The DC we got from penn state was supposed to have been a huge upgrade. Everybody scored that hire a 10/10 lol

Until Butch basically forced him into a square peg. Wasn't able to bring his own guys and his Y1 was our most important year for CBJ. Terrible time to shift.

Jancek already had our defense playing close to elite...unfortunately he had some "situation". That was the beginning of the end.

It was a 10/10 hire...at the time. It's only with the benefit of hindsight that we know what happened. Shoop was strapped to a rocket in terms of his coaching stock when he came here. This stop severely damaged his career. Jancek was better than I thought at the time, but I'll never forgive 4th & 14 vs UF. We had that game. We had it.

2014, 2015, and 2017 were particularly severe nut punches, and I was at each one. Was also there in 2000 for the Gaffney "catch." What good luck I have.

Amen. I was just trying to give the slightest impression of moderation, but you are correct.

There’s nothing moderate about defense of your daughter. Total annihilation of the offender is a minimal response.

There was so much talent. So much, and we squandered it. If we'd won ONE of those games in 2015 -- Oklahoma, Florida, or Alabama -- I'm convinced everything would be different now.

Just Alabama in 2015 to knock off Saban and Vandy in 2016 to go to the Sugar Bowl and we're in a very different place today.

I was there too with my then-girlfriend, now wife. I remember walking back to my car and her sadly saying "I thought I was going to get to say I was your good luck charm." I will never get over it.
