Would a recruit pick a school that would have more opportunities for NIL contracts? A 3 star would definitely pick UT over Kentucky or Arkansas because TN’s business and growth opportunities.Recruiting is going to get very interesting… think about the NIL contracts that will be offered IF a recruit picks a certain school. It’s going to be a real bidding war to see which booster/businessman puts together the best NIL package
I've rubbed elbows with lots of guys on the PGA Tour but I've never been an autograph guy. I have only 4 autographed items that I will keep forever. It’s funny looking at some of the autographs I’ve gotten over the years, a lot of them never went anywhere after college so they just look like random names. I have Blake Mitchell’s autograph. Doubt any of you remember who that is
Mickey mantle? Drunk? No way!I've rubbed elbows with lots of guys on the PGA Tour but I've never been an autograph guy. I have only 4 autographed items that I will keep forever.
Pete Rose signed a baseball for me
Peyton Manning signed a picture for me
Joe Montana signed a football for me
Byron Nelson signed my Masters hat--my most prized possession
Mickey Mantle signed a baseball for me but when I met him he was drunk--and for some reason, I just didn't keep the ball
A 3 star isn't going to get business opportunities. That's been the point of the criticism. It isn't that players are trying to make a quick buck, it's that they think there is a market for their NIL to begin with, outside of maybe a few hundred dollars, which is nothing compared to their stipend anyway.Would a recruit pick a school that would have more opportunities for NIL contracts? I think the universities will come up with a way to seize the NIL money their top players are making and redistribute it among the rest.A 3 star isn't going to get business opportunities. It's going to be an unpleasant surprise when the world of CFB players learn that there are millions of dollars to be spent on NIL, but only for the top 1% of players. And then they will learn that again when players eventually get paid directly.
But all of that assumes everything is above board. What happens when a booster decides he wants to buy a single autograph from each signing class, and he is willing to pay $5000 for each star they have?
No idea. When **** like that starts happening, the legitimate NIL opportunities will be irrelevant. NIL will just be a legal way to pay players as much as you want.
Mickey mantle? Drunk? No way!
But it is unbelievable yoy didn’t keep the ball. That thing would be worth a fortune today
How long will it be before College teams uniforms start looking like a NASCAR ? Its just a matter of time you know, bowl game jersey's already kinda look that way so it's just something else that's going to happen.
I don't think anyone knows where this thing can go. It's gonna be a wild ride thoughSo someone help me understand this NIL thing. Are there limits? For example, let's say one of our boosters says, you know what, I really want Nolen at Tennessee. So the booster who happens to own a car dealership says, Nolen, if you come here I'll pay you a million to endorse my car dealership and I'll give you a new car. Then someone from GA says, Nolen, if you come here I'll pay you 1.5 to endorse my clothing brand. Is that a thing that can actually happen now?
Hung out at Jaxx on Midway at Beltline also. Arrived in DFW before he got his transplant.Over the years, somehow the ball just got lost in the shuffle but it didn't bother me.
Mickey Mantle and Johnny Unitas were my sports hero's when I grew up. When I had a chance to meet one of my idols, Mickey Mantle, I was on cloud nine. I thought he was the greatest ball player in the world and there he was----sh^t faced. He lived here in Dallas and was a member of Prestonwood Country Club. Some of the guys I play golf with were members there and they have tons of stories about his antics . I would not want to go through life being a drunk.
When did you work at Cedar Point.? I went every summer from around 1976 through 1982, Really good amusement park and quite the long haul to Johnson City, for sure.My freshman year at UT, there was a “summer job fair” and I got a job at Cedar Point in Ohio. The Eagles played a concert in Johnson City that summer. A friend and I worked all day Friday then drove to my folks’ house in Kingsport Friday night. The concert was Saturday evening. We left immediately after the concert so we were back at work Sunday morning. Concert was absolutely worth it!
People have warned of this happening for what seems like decades, or at least ever since European Soccer started doing it. Hasn’t happened yet. Those 2x2” patches on NBA jerseys is as close as we’ve gottenHow long will it be before College teams uniforms start looking like a NASCAR ?
