I don't see how in the world margins are slim on those teardrops, but if you say so.I've looked at similar stuff. It's difficult to make money. Believe it or not, margins are slim. In order to make money you have to make 100's of them. That requires a pretty big facility. Much bigger than mine. Plus it brings in DOT stuff. It would take about 50 of those to equal one of our current products.
Did he include labor, health insurance, taxes, overhead (building, utilities, etc), advertising, indirect costs (HR, accounting, legal, etc), fringe benefits?I don't see how in the world margins are slim on those teardrops, but if you say so.
I mean at eight grand you are talking $133 a square foot or so...there is no way it costs anywhere close to that much. My brother in law built one himself for a couple grand.
You consider Applebees a bar?
The ones next to a waffle house.
Of course not. Just going along with the Applebee's joke
He's got a point.Reminds me of one time I was at a marina on Norris Lake here in East Tennessee.
It was late, after midnight for sure. I was chewing the fat with a couple of buddies and the owner of the marina. It was pitch black except for the lights out side the marina restaurant. We heard the faint sound of a small outboard off in the distance. We looked toward the sound but saw nothing. In a few minutes a small john boat enters the light. Not nary a light on it. One guy pulls up and gets out. He evidently was camping across the lake as it had been raining all day and he was covered with mud. He was wearing overalls with no shirt. He calmly gets out and walks over. The marina owner says "can I help you?" The guy says "yea, is the bar open?" The owner says, "this is a marina, not a bar". The guys answers, "Do you sell beer?" The owner responded, "Yes, we sell beer". The guy says " well, it's a bar then".

I understand that, and I get why he wouldn't mess with it as much as he makes on his houseboats. I still think you could turn one out at 5,000 and still make 2,000.Did he include labor, health insurance, taxes, overhead (building, utilities, etc), advertising, indirect costs (HR, accounting, legal, etc), fringe benefits?
Costs-to-product are so much more for businesses. Just sayin - but I do like your idea...but will defer to the boatmaker as well.
You'd be surprised. If you look at raw material, sure. But it involves so many trades. Welders, fabricators, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical. Add in overhead, insurance is ridiculous. $2-$3K goes toward product liability insurance on one of our boats, even more for the higher end models. And I've never had a claim. I know those companies are making money but you have to do so much volume to do it.
My daughter got me this shirt for Father’s Day. View attachment 377652
She said that she couldn’t resist when she read the last part. Said that it captured me perfectly…

Geaux Vols posted in the Turnage thread today.I miss seeing @BaldBiker post. Wish he'd pop in so at least we'd know he was doing well. Someone else I haven't seen post in a while is GeuxVols. Anyone know what he's up to these days?
Ya dun spoiled itI was just reading the plot for F9 (Fast and Furious) and just had to share. When did this franchise go Sharknado?
“…Using the rocket car, Tej and Roman enter orbit and ram themselves into the satellite, stopping the upload. Cipher, remotely flying an attack jet, bombs the truck and kills Otto in an attempt to kill Dom; Dom uses the ricocheting truck destroys Cipher's plane. Dom and Mia reconcile with Jakob and allow him to escape in Dom's car. A spaceship returns Tej and Roman to Earth…”
