Everything “elite” was spun around that Vandy game. Nothing else he did in two seasons sniffed that status. Good player and replaceable.
It will be interesting to see how much of that was playing for an awful offense with an even worse QB. I do agree that those who are absolutely gaga over him and feel his departure cripples our program simply remember one game and project it across a career.

True. I expect Payton to catch a lot of balls this year. He, Hyatt, and Velus are going to be a three headed monster of speed at receiver if we have a QB who can get them the ball

Our biggest losses came not to the portal, but to the NFL. I wish we still had Bryce and Palmer. I wish we still had Henry and Gray, but I don't think either of those = an additional win. I'm not certain that Mitchell isn't better than Henry. Henry last year was not good. But that may have been more coaching than anything.

Gray was a good RB, but not elite, and went down very easily. I'm curious to see if Small and/or Evans are better than him as it is.
Heupel may have moved Gray to slot WR after he watched him for 2 practices in pass pro

We lost Eric Gray and Henry T. Two guys who were good that I wish we still had.

But we added Tiyon Evans and Jaylen Wright to the RB room and we add Mitchell who led Texas in tackles. Might be a wash there. Gray was good, but he was not elite by any stretch.

We lost head case Middleton and Emerson who never played. We replaced them with Terry and Tremblay. Upgrade.

We lost Key Lawrence who never played, and we replaced him with Turnage who likewise didn't play much, but had been in Bama's room for two years. Wash

We lost Wanya who was a bust, and JJ who was terrible. We lost some depth here.

We lost Crouch who looked good on paper as a recruit, but was terrible as a LB. We added the kid from Michigan who actually knows how to play LB that was recruited by our LB coach. Upgrade

I think our additions equal and in some cases upgrade what we've lost in the portal.
Well thought out points there.

The #1 challenge we have is a culture of losing and cutting corners. We are getting rid of “me first” guys. Hopefully we replace them with leaders and then coach them up. If we break even the first two years while replacing the culture, we may be ready to take off by year 3.

Try to find me some film of Gray breaking a tackle. He is most definitely replaceable. And the scheme in this offense will get our RBs some huge numbers.

Not gonna read an ubben article but this young man is gonna be such an asset to the future of Tennessee football.

If you need grass seed or whatever the f he does, go through him.

Craziest thing, never seen the name Frerking my entire life, then last week someone with that name made an offer on my house. Now I'm seeing it again the same week.

Have an acquaintance who traded his old Xterra for new. Nice guy, was surprised at why they made him such a great deal. Nissan. Thing rattled like a tin can.

Conversely, my Pop's 10 year old 4-Runner drives as great at 170K as it did off the lot.
I have a 17 year old Sequoia with 219,000...can confirm the awesome longevity of Toyota SUVs...I love mine.

It really sucks looking back on firing Fulmer. A lot of football-coaching-hire wisdom gained over the last 15 years. Fulmer still had that team playing hard. He was still bringing in top recruiting classes. A couple bad years and he’s gone. Knowing what we know now, it was an extremely myopic decision.

He wasn't ever going to do anything....he was done. There is a great reason nobody hired him...he was stuck in the past.

It wasn't wrong to fire him, he deserved firing by the end...what was bungled was the horrid coaching hires after him.

Apathy had started to set in amongst the fan base. The mass exodus during the Florida game that year was an unfamiliar site in Neyland at that time. Clawson isn't a bad coach but his offense was too complex for early success. See Wake Forest for example. Hiring Mike Debord instead may have delayed Fulmer's exit for a few more seasons.

Do you all think this NIL will become a distraction for players and carry over onto the field? More time spent promoting and marketing, chasing deals than studying game tape and working out or not that big of a deal.

Hindsight being what it is, I think I’d rather have ridden with Fulmer a few more apathetic years and let Clawson work. I don’t know this but I think Kiffin would have been okay for a few years. He may have kept Georgia from growing into what they are now. He probably was a pretty good hire, but him showing no respect for our traditions and leaving like that really Dooley’d us. PF had to go, we got extremely lucky in ‘07 to go to Atlanta…. We were murdered by Bama and Florida The writing was on the wall… Saban and Meyer were taking over the conference. Not sure any hire we made would have made a lick of difference as far as our pecking order. At best it would have kept us firmly above Kentucky Mizzou and SCar.

I just wish I could peer into the alternative universe where we hired Gary Patterson.

i'd like a '72 Nova.

Toyota Century for me...as long as it comes with its own Yakuza driver to carry me about.

Fwiw this channel is just great if you're a car person...reviews mostly about fairly everyday, forgotten and wonky cars mostly from the past...like a '91 SHO or an '84 Hurst Olds (wtf) or he'll drive a brand new Supra and rail against it with fury for 20 minutes. Guy is just sort of entertaining...poetic...and funny at times.
