Because mainly it's a huge money waster and a large tax burden on the people
Yeah. But to be fair they knew that when they bid on it. Hosting the olympics anywhere other than the United States usually ends up that way. Only reason it doesn’t here is because we have a sports culture massive enough to host it on a moments notice. Other countries don’t. But don’t bid on it if you don’t want to assume that burden.

People say Heupel can’t recruit. I’d say he’s doing a strong job of recruiting the portal. We’ve gotten players on our 2 deep from:

Texas
USC
Alabama
Auburn
Michigan
Kansas
Miss St

Some of these guys will pan out. We will not go 3-9, folks.
If Vegas has decent odds for us to go 3-9
, I’d bet the farm against it. Our floor is 5 wins IMO

We lost Eric Gray and Henry T. Two guys who were good that I wish we still had.

But we added Tiyon Evans and Jaylen Wright to the RB room and we add Mitchell who led Texas in tackles. Might be a wash there. Gray was good, but he was not elite by any stretch.

We lost head case Middleton and Emerson who never played. We replaced them with Terry and Tremblay. Upgrade.

We lost Key Lawrence who never played, and we replaced him with Turnage who likewise didn't play much, but had been in Bama's room for two years. Wash

We lost Wanya who was a bust, and JJ who was terrible. We lost some depth here.

We lost Crouch who looked good on paper as a recruit, but was terrible as a LB. We added the kid from Michigan who actually knows how to play LB that was recruited by our LB coach. Upgrade

I think our additions equal and in some cases upgrade what we've lost in the portal.

Also Javonta Payton > Brandon Johnson

True. I expect Payton to catch a lot of balls this year. He, Hyatt, and Velus are going to be a three headed monster of speed at receiver if we have a QB who can get them the ball

Our biggest losses came not to the portal, but to the NFL. I wish we still had Bryce and Palmer. I wish we still had Henry and Gray, but I don't think either of those = an additional win. I'm not certain that Mitchell isn't better than Henry. Henry last year was not good. But that may have been more coaching than anything.

Gray was a good RB, but not elite, and went down very easily. I'm curious to see if Small and/or Evans are better than him as it is.

What they will have is a QB that is significantly better than JG. Guaranteed.

Juwan softens the blow a ton, but I always felt Banks was better than Crouch and he's getting another year of linebacker under his belt. He could be pretty decent.

Gray and Chandlers vision was just so bad...

Maybe I’m looking at it with orange tinted glasses but the perception (which is understandable) that there isn’t talent on this team isn’t accurate. I also believe this years team actually enjoys CJH and staff and enjoy playing with each other. You’ve heard multiple recruits say the team was divided and didn’t enjoy playing under Pruitt, that make a huge difference. I’m not saying we’re gonna win 9-10 games but 6-8 is very doable. All comes down to QB play. For as bad as we were last year with average QB play we beat Arkansas, Kentucky, and Auburn.

I don’t disagree with much of this, but I think you may be downplaying Gray a bit. And Wright, Evans, and Small may be suitable replacements in his place. Everything Oklahoma seems to touch turns to hold and I won’t be surprised to see Gray put up huge numbers out there in that offense. The media and coaches (RB coach, Demarco Murray in particular) have raved about him coming out of spring practice.

Chandler’s vision was poor, I’d agree. Disagree on Gray, though.

Gray went down by his shoe strings so much. He had great cutting ability, but was tackled so easily. And his pass blocking was atrocious.

Nobody was talking about us being a low talent team when we led against GA at the half. Its amazing how the narrative has flipped to now we have no talent. I don't buy it. I also don't buy that our best players left in the portal. As I said above, Henry and Gray are good, neither are irreplaceable and I actually think we may have replaced them with the guys we've brought in anyway. If we had a QB last year, we may have beaten GA, and then how would the season have played out?

After JG came out and gave the game away, the team quit, and that was obvious. Soon as JG threw the pick 6 against KY the next week, the season was over. This team quit. I don't think that's a lack of talent. That's a lack of heart in the culture of the team who quit on their QB and on their coaching staff. There's still talent on this team. Are we GA or Alabama? No. But we are still more talented than every team we will play this year outside the big 3 imo. There's a lot of talent here, especially on offense.

He will put up huge numbers in that offense, especially since they don't play a team with a defense. I'm not saying he's bad. He was really good. But he's not Kamara. He's not elite imo. Maybe I'm wrong. But I remember Gray breaking some long runs, but I remember him being tackled easily and being horrible in pass pro also

Everything “elite” was spun around that Vandy game. Nothing else he did in two seasons sniffed that status. Good player and replaceable.

Not gonna read an ubben article but this young man is gonna be such an asset to the future of Tennessee football.

If you need grass seed or whatever the f he does, go through him.

It’s pinestraw... MetroStraw… it’s about a million dollar company. Targets landscaping companies that have contracts with HOA/etc. who want to focus on hardscapes. He sources and delivers. Apparently one of his clients is UT campus! He’s very impressive.

Pass protection was certainly not his forte.
