They all take that chance on any flip or jump...don’t they? It’s muscle memory at this point...been doing it all her life. Sounds like an excuse...
I’m somewhat torn on this situation. I guess I have a couple of different opinions on this. All I know is I’m glad I’m an American and I’m glad Simone is as well. Had the young lady been competing for Russia and this occurred, she would be publicly executed in the streets of Moscow.

Again, don’t they ALL take this risk? Yes or no...

biles was doing components in these routines she had only debuted about 6 weeks ago. they had never been done before by a female gymnast, judges didn't know how to score them. so, yes-- all components involve risk. no, they do not involve the same amounts of risk, nor had she done them enough to truly be on autopilot.

Didn’t know how to score them? Wow...

Why not scale it back and take one for the team?

the best push the sport forward? i don't think you ask the absolute alpha to phone it in a bit. its just not the spirit of the sport. anyway, the committee ended up telling her they were scoring her on a curve, so basically "do your routine, we're going grade it the closest we can with the tools we have. sorry." she was already kinda getting screwed.

Can’t wait to see our running backs in this offense.

Hope Evans takes the reigns and lives up to his billing. Think he could be a great one. Small and Wright could be strong options this season too.

Definitely need to recruit a stud this cycle for our upcoming undefeated seasons.

Some positive views toward US athletes for once. Seems some on this board have been anti-USA athletes since the start of the olympics. Weird and don't get it. I mean...if you're a France or whatever Swedish or Russian fan...ok.

Some just seem too happy to hate on their own athletes when they probably couldn't do a freakin cartwheel or make a 3 pointer over a 6'6 defender....while they throw Busch light cans from their la-z-boy at their square tv...and miss. Armchair athletes.

I think in this case...you do what you can for your team, within reason...not the sport. The whole point of the outrage I believe...but anyway.

Wonder if reclassifying is the wave of the future in football. At least for highly rated prospects.

N/m read that wrong.

To OP - yeah I'd agree. Assuming more states don't allow HS athletes to utilize their NiL. Only aware of CA allowing it so far, but that could be outdated info.

yeah, i can understand that. individual team sports are weird. the emphasis on "team" is obviously not what it is with team sports like football or basketball. these athletes mostly do not train together during the year, they live all over the country, the earn their olympic spot on the merits of their individual performances, etc, and even the team awards in sports like gymnastic have diluted meaning because in many levels (even up to high school), its just a question of who has the most participants. they tend to be secondary for the most part, in gymnastics, anyway.

I mean ultimately who are we to judge anyone else for their choice. The person making them has to live with the decision not us. The vast majority of the world has zero things changing in their daily life based on what an athlete decides to do.

Hell, I honestly wish our culture didn't spend so much time speculating or forming excuses/reasons for why other people make the choices they do. End of the day it's either you want to or you don't, if someone doesn't then so be it.
If we don’t form opinions on sporting events or athletes…… why are we on this site bc that is basically all we do all day long…… none of it truly affects our everyday life.
