I mean ultimately who are we to judge anyone else for their choice. The person making them has to live with the decision not us. The vast majority of the world has zero things changing in their daily life based on what an athlete decides to do.

Hell, I honestly wish our culture didn't spend so much time speculating or forming excuses/reasons for why other people make the choices they do. End of the day it's either you want to or you don't, if someone doesn't then so be it.

Anyone saying that Simone pulling out disqualifies her from GOAT status has no clue just how dominant she has been in her career. Undefeated in all around competitions since 2013(age 16). 7 US all around titles, 5 world all around titles, 4 or more titles at a world championship on 4 occasions, most world championship medals in history(25), most world titles in history(19).

4 skills named after her, one of which she landed while passing a kidney stone, first skill in history to award a full point instead of .9. Would have had a 5th if she had done her new vault in Olympic competition.

But she obviously can't handle pressure and now doesn't deserve to be respected as the best despite consistently doing things nobody has ever done before.

Simone = Tiger for her sport. Right? Both are potentially GOAT's depending on personal views. They both compete individually and on teams representing us - AMERICA.

Tiger has been through many career endangering injuries. Battles back from them and wins. When it's Ryder Cup and President's Cup time he goes and plays no matter how he is feeling in his head or body. Gives it everything he's got and earns the respect of people who like him and don't care for him at all. So much respect that he was chosen as captain of the team.

Can that be said now for Simone? She just made a huge career limiting move that undercut America's team. Not much of a GOAT move in my book, but to each his or her own.
