Per 247:
"Head coach Josh Heupel on Monday named Michigan transfer Joe Milton III the starting quarterback for Tennessee's season opener against Bowling Green on Thursday night at Neyland Stadium (8 p.m., SEC Network). The newcomer earned the job in camp, edging out Virginia Tech transfer Hendon Hooker and sophomore Harrison Bailey to get the nod.'

Hodge hits portal one day before depth chart released.

Probably upset that Evans & Wright jumped him on the RB depth chart.

I'm a tad surprised they don't let Wright return kicks instead of Evans. Mainly because Wright has more speed and I'm personally not a fan of having my starting RB take a hit before the first snap on offense.

Evans was a returner in Juco. Makes sense.

the DL will rotate. its not a big deal. Omari and Solomon will get snaps. Not like youre playing one or 2 DTs every snap esp one thats 350lbs.

Agreed, I'd say you'll see more of Solomon and possibly Omari when we're in SEC play.

This is Bowling Green and it'd be a great chance to get some of the younger guys live action snaps early when they are fresh to see what they can do. Plus less tread coming off the tire of the guys ya wanna see more of in SEC play.

I trust Rodney and his rotation/starters more than probably any other coach on staff right now.

I think coaches typically prioritize the experienced players who make smart decisions in the return game over the more explosive player.

QB coach in the press box. Interesting. Don't usually see that.

Huh? QB coach and/or OC are pretty common in the press box. Usually who the QBs get to chat with on the phones after series too.

I personally think it's extremely smart, put the guy who knows the offense as well as you in the box to give you the bird's eye and keep the energy guy (Alex) on the sideline.

Plus Heupel is the Main QB coach on field anyway. I suspect he sees future potential as play caller in Hazel and wants him getting experience now in box
