I think we have under performed so much that the media is afraid to say we will actually perform for once. So they focus on all the reasons why we may not do well. Later they can talk about what a good job CJH has done or simply say it was expected.Last year's team wins 6 in a normal year. They won 3 SEC games and they would've beaten the three cupcakes we play this year. That's 6-6.
So we're going to be improved at every position group but can't improve the record? I don't buy it, especially when we think about the offense, we aren't talking about minor improvement. We're about to take a major leap forward on that side of the ball. Injuries could derail that, I'm not denying it. But to say that we're improved at basically every position but will see no improvement in record is something I just don't get.
Toot was good, Grey isn't better than Small/Evans/Wright especially in this offense we won't miss him, Key couldn't get on the field over McDonald or Slaughter and we replaced him with Turnage who is basically the same player but has been in bama's system for 2 years, Wanya was playing TE though I'd like to have him for depth, Bennett wasn't on last year's team, Johnson is mediocre and spent more time in the locker room due to penalties than he did making plays. We upgraded over him with Byron is my bet. Losing these guys did not hurt us with the exception of Henry. We lost Henry and depth.
People talk about what we lost and never talk about what we gained.
I wish we had more depth, but none of those guys you just named = a win.
We were pretty bad due to coaching last year, and we had a terrible record.
Fast forward a year
Not hard to say we are better everywhere on the field and will have a better record than 3-7. No one besides us fans will have the Vols ceiling above 6 wins. Most people aren’t going to say “yeah 8 win ceiling” especially after a coaching change, and 3 wins the previous year. Let’s not forget losing pretty damn good starters/depth, especially at LB last year love them or hate them (Toot, Gray, Morris, Key, Bennet, Johnson, etc)
100% agree, those guys may excel at their new school but the fact of the matter is other than Grey and Henry T they were not good (Henry was horrible in coverage) you can’t convince me the guys we added won’t play at the same or higher level than those guys did last year. Key Lawrence was our biggest loss and he didn’t even play.Last year's team wins 6 in a normal year. They won 3 SEC games and they would've beaten the three cupcakes we play this year. That's 6-6.

I agree with everything you said, however, the overall depth of this team is worse.Last year's team wins 6 in a normal year. They won 3 SEC games and they would've beaten the three cupcakes we play this year. That's 6-6.

I don’t understand the trepidation. We should win all 4 non conference. Losing even to Pitt would be a bad loss. We should beat Vandy as well. That’s 5. That means for 6-6 they would have us losing all we “should” (Bama, UGA, and Florida) and only going 1-4 in toss ups games where we are equally or even more talented (SC, Missouri, Ky, and Ole Miss)You got the VQ crew over there telling us on one hand that literally every position on the team is improved over last year, and then on the other hand saying our ceiling is 6-6. Makes no sense.
I also think we need to see the team execute. The only thing worth watching Thursday is to see if JH has this team well organized and disciplined.
BG isn’t an opponent to learn anything against. Milton shouldn’t be judged until the Pitt game
So what you’re saying is…It’s Not like im predicting 10-2. just don’t tell me that we’re better at every position and are taking a major leap on offense and then tell me our ceiling is 6-6. We’re either improved or we’re not. 6-6 is not improved.
