Man… retiring sounds horrible to me. I own my own tax practice and love it. I do what I want when I want. I’ll work til I die, just on a smaller scale when I’m older. But I do plan on trying to leave my kids generational money so I have a lot to save with my wife. $2 million today will be worth a lot less in 20 years (if thats what people are banking on for retirement).
I'm thinking $10 mil in retirement is the goal so I can't drop to 20 hours a week anytime soon....

All good. I wasn’t overwhelmed at the hire but damn he’s been impressive overhauling that offense.
Absolutely. He’s done everything about as well as he could so far given the state of everything when he took over.

Still a lot to rebuild. Dooley fell victim to only getting one side of the ball rolling and it cost him dearly. Hoping CJH and Banks can get the defense up towards the middle of the pack even if it may take another class or two.

I’m sorry, but I hate this NIL. It was ridiculous what AL, GA and a few others were paying. And you can see the results. Now it’s just going to get beyond ridiculous, and that’s all anyone is going to talk about with it being in the open. And can you imagine crazy fans when the players do not perform up to expectations after what they are being paid?

Remember the Yankees of the 80’s. Buying players doesn’t guarantee success. Sometimes causes more problems. Alabama still evaluates very well before purchasing.

Isn't that part of the package for any of these programs (like A&M) though?
Meh, this is all a DROP in the bucket compared to the absurd amount of evasion occcurring from small business (those s-corp folks especially...) and crypto these days...as it pertains to IRS attention.

Fwiw all of these guys will receive a 1099 from the payor (over $600 deals) and those businesses send those directly to the IRS. It's pretty straightforward for the IRS, unlike small business tax evasion and crypto cap gains.

Also glad UT has courses for this. Pretty straightforward - take 15+% depending on your income and send in your quarterly taxes according to a very specific schedule. It couldn't be easier.

Earnings will be reported for sure, but doesn’t the person receiving payment have the option of having taxes withheld upfront or no withholding and just paying by April 15th? Spend it all and there’s nothing left for the taxman. I don’t know though, maybe large payments get tax automatically withheld, I’ve never received a large sum like that.

I wasn’t aware he had an option… pretty sure he was a super senior already
I think you're right. He probably just wanted to have his moment to make a statement to put a cap on his time at Tennessee. He's a good example of a player that most dismissed early on but found a good role later in his career and made a difference. Hopefully he gets a shot in the NFL.

Lived below their means, invested the difference, and began at an early age. That’s what my parents did. Both retired at 52.5 y/o. Were Not teachers or retired military.

Most ppl do not live below their means. Here’s an ALMOST fool-proof observation: most ppl that try to look like they hv money don’t; they usually hv monthly payments on everything they hv and live WAY beyond their means. Most ppl that do hv money (in “real” life scenarios), you’d never know it.
I started my first roth IRA when I was 19. A door to door salesman came by and talked me into it. I started it with $75. . . a good lesson to learn early. Back then the max was $2000 a yr you could put in, less than a car payment and have plenty when you hit 60. . . never thought I'd make 30 when I was 19.

My yearly expenses total around 18k a year. I don’t do much that I don’t want to, I’m just a home body. I’ll buy a video game every couple of months and that’s basically the entirety of my leisure spending.

I’m 25, essentially fresh out of college, making ~30k trying to find my career path so I haven’t invested much. Just general savings. I hope I find a career I want to settle in with relatively soon, but I’m currently back at a restaurant I served at in college while I’m looking for work from home opportunities. My girlfriend is off for her masters in a year, and I have no clue where we’ll be living since she hasn’t picked her school. So work from home is pretty much a must at this juncture.

Sorry, weird tangent on my life situation right now lol. But basically- yeah live below your means. It’s hard for some, but I manage it well.

No matter how small I encourage you to put something into retirement each paycheck. So whatever vehicle is available through your employment is a good place to start 403(b) or 401(k). Roth IRA is great too. Just pick a blue chip index or total market index and let it invest automatically. Time in the market is better than timing the market. You’ll thank yourself in 20 years.
