I would rather have crappy umpires…. They are taking any kind of drama/excitement out of the game. I will lump all these things together that I feel have changed for the worse for baseball bc of safety, computers, analytics:
* No more physical plays at the plate
* No more breaking up double plays
* limited SBs, hit and runs, bunts
* Shift and analytics showing that hitting into the shift is better than going the other way
* using 6 pitchers a game
-* limited managers arguing with umpires
* over the top suspensions
* This rule will take away batters figuring out how an ump is calling the game…..catchers being good at framing pitches…. Skilled pitchers(already going way) that can make a ball move from being a strike to just off the plate and getting the call…. Maddux was the goat at this.

The game is getting more bland every season.
You missed what I said. Unions have kept crappy umps like Hernandez in the big leagues far longer than they need to be. Hernandez and many other umps should've been fired a long time ago with their inconsistencies. Unions are literally the reason why major league (and in a sense college) refs/umps for taking credit for being wrong and facing consequences for horrible calls

I'm not much of a country fan but I love that song. Stapleton manages to do something most musicians suck at these days and put some heart and soul into that song. Music in general, not just country, needs a shakeup so bad. What's sad is that locally you can't throw a rock without hitting amazing talent and there are plenty of other areas around the country where that's also true but none of it seems to make it to airwaves in the current industry which would rather stick with mediocre formulas they know will sell x amount but otherwise have very little artistic merit and will be forgotten as soon as some other mediocre artist releases another mediocre song (which is to say almost instantly).
Listen to a guy like Jason Isbell.

I’m fine with more accountability if their is a way to get that point… I just don’t feel that the answer is computerized balls and strikes.

Not that I am complaining, but we normally reserve these to boom for commits.

Did it at night. Simultaneously pulling the trigger as it went in. Not a single a$$hole could take flight.
It was like Alderaan. Probably over a thousand screamed out at once and were suddenly silenced.
If one yellow jacket had broken free, my a$$hole most certainly would have taken flight.

Yeah, I will say it. If they used automated systems for balls and strikes during his career, Tom Glavine would have had nowhere near a HOF career.

You think that’s a requirement…

BUB?

Can’t handle responses, don’t issue opinions…

BUB!
Some of you lot are miserable. And I’m the one who can’t handle responses? You’re the one who seems to be extremely offended. Never @‘d you nor inferred you were who I was referring to. In fact, it was simply a general statement. No intentions to single anyone out nor was I thinking of anyone specifically. However, by inserting yourself, you come off as one BRAJ fanboy.

Really not. Ended my subscription this past year and haven’t missed it. But there no “worshipping” going on, BUB. You take it or leave it…I do a little of both. And if you put out a generalized call out on THIS BOARD? You’re going to get responses @ or no. Don’t like that? Set yourself up with a Word document and dominate yourself, Tulip. 😎

Due to AP's vacay, this week's episode of VQ PC sponsored by whichamadooger, has been pre empted by white noise.'

'We apologise for the noise but figured it would be better than 1,000 words saying nothing.'

-$9.99
This is fake. 1000 words of nothing is the official VQ slogan. They would never turn their back on their roots like that.

Normally he wouldn’t write this much if there weren’t something going on here. From yesterday’s blog TIFWIW:

Tony Basilio said:
Tennessee's NIL Efforts Remain Toned Down:

As we brought up on last Wednesday's Tony Basilio Show, Tennessee is currently discouraging its coaches from having direct contact with Spyre, the main NIL arm in the Tennessee org.

Where did this edict come from?
spacer.gif

The short answer is Tennessee AD Dr. Danny White but it's not that simple. I've learned through multiple conversations with people all around this that Dr. Danny is getting his marching orders from Tennessee Chancellor Dr. Donde Plowman who has encouraged this kibosh.

Why Is Dr. Plowman Encouraging An NIL Slowdown?
spacer.gif

I've learned that Dr. Plowman has had some pressure put on her from the SEC office and in particular Greg Sankey. The SEC reached out to Plowman right around the time of the Saban/Fisher dustup. The story goes that Plowman was asked to have Tennessee cool it because the SEC is trying to help Tennessee through their still pending NCAA Investigation and Tennessee rolled over. Apparently the SEC is concerned over the high profile of Nico's recruitment.

Are Tennessee's Coaches Still Communicating With Spyre?
spacer.gif

Not directly ... At least not on University issued phones ... Tennessee coaches have been asked to not communicate with Spyre directly from Danny White but obviously still are having talks. This is creating an unnecessary level of nonsense at a time when football recruiting is in its highest gear. The timing of this couldn't possibly be worse for Tennessee Football Recruiting.

Does This Hamstring Josh Heupel and Co?
spacer.gif

Of course it does. Consider that other SEC coaches are flying around with their NIL folks and Tennessee is forced into back channel communications. That's absurd but that's where we currently are with this. I guess the Fulmer/Pruitt era is the gift that keeps on giving.

How Will This Impact Spyre Going Forward?
spacer.gif
I've been told by multiple sources that the Spyre folks have built up a nice sized war chest in the meantime but that money down the line could get tight. Especially if Tennessee's administration encourages top boosters to adhere to this embargo (sorry couldn't think of a better word here). The Spyre folks have to be concerned that if Tennessee's administration doesn't give them their blessing it's going to be tough for them to keep the balls in the air and stay comfortably funded.

What Is Communication Like Between Spyre And Tennessee?
spacer.gif

Cordial but not warm. Tennessee has a point person internally that talks with them at least once a week but is currently forbidding coaches from direct contact. The female point person in question allows Tennessee to say that they communicate with Spyre regularly but it's not Danny White involved in regular communications ... Danny White has even gone as far as to threaten to confiscate phones and check texts if need be. I'm not kidding here.

In a perfect world Tennessee coaches would be and should be able to travel with any collective folks (ie Tony Vols with Friends of BaseVols, Kellie Harper with their NIL, etc.) and encourage fans to give to these collectives. This is what's going on at places like Ohio State. Of course these other places don't have NCAA cases hanging over their heads.

What Will Sypre Do The Next 12 Months?
spacer.gif
They're either going to have to tell their story better or else. They can't allow Dr. Danny & Co. to control the narrative on them. It goes without saying that there will always be tension between institutional guys like Danny White and players in the NIL space like Spyre. Danny obviously abhors their existence because it's competition for dollars in an already tightening marketplace.

My sources tell me that Spyre is going to increase their visibility with various media buys. Spyre simply must be better in engaging and communicating with Tennessee fans. Look for the marketing to ramp up in the next several months. In a perfect world UT coaches would have these folks from different collectives on coaches' shows, etc. but that's not going to happen here any time soon. Again the collectives can try and sell fans that they're not competing with these universities for the same dollar but they are. These universities are not going to cede turf to collectives. At least not without a fight. All collectives must tell their story and not allow these universities to control the narrative.

Should Tennessee Disregard The NCAA And Go All In?
spacer.gif

Personally I would absolutely proceed as if the NCAA troubles don't exist. Of course there is a line there. There's little doubt that Tennessee drew an unnecessary bulls-eye on itself with that Nico story in The Athletic. Surely if the Spyre people and Nico's family had a do-over they would've played low. Of course, I'm not in the middle of that game like Danny White and Tennessee's administration. In all fairness to Danny White (even though he's an institutional blue blood to the core) he didn't start the fire here with the NCAA mess. That happened under the human victory lap known as Phillip Fulmer.

It seems that this governing body of major college sports has less power with each passing day. NIL is getting ready to turn one and we're all still here. It seems silly for Tennessee to put a restrictor plate on its coaches while the rest of the SEC is ramping up to NIL warp speed. How long will the embargo continue? Will Danny White and Donde Plowman turn the spigot back on and allow the money to flow more freely?
