Ga’s recruiting is ridiculous. Signed 7 five stars last year. Already have 3 this year and have crystal balls today for 2 more. Now we’ll play the two most talented teams in the country every year and, unfortunately for us, Richt isn’t coaching them anymore. They’re not soft anymore.

If we’re going to compete at that level, we’ll have to recruit close to that level, or Ga will own the east for the foreseeable future.

Remember Kirby lost to Butch Jones, Jim McElwain, and Derek Mason in year 1. Also almost lost to Nichols St.

They had an amazing season last year but I’d wait to crown Kirby at this point.

This season should give us a clearer picture.

Call me a GA fan all you want. They are Bama East now.

The way they are recruiting you appear right. However, other teams recruit that well and don’t experience the same sustained success as Bama: USC, Texas, LSU, Auburn, FSU just to name a few. Hopefully GA will be that way. Either way, we have our work cut out for us. I think Pruitt has more potential than Smart, but that’s jmo. We’ll see what happens. Hopefully we land these highly ranked guys were in on like Bogle, Crouch, Wright and others. We’ll need them. Better land an elite QB in the 2020 class as well

It's also very rare how few injuries they had last year. We were at opposite ends of the bell curve for a normal amount of injuries. The only one I remember them having ending up leading them to a better QB. That is absurdly lucky. They have a lot of talent and Kirby appears to be a good coach but let's not assume we don't belong on the same level as them.

Speaking of schedules, there has been some discussion on local talk radio about adding a 9th conference game and/or removing the requirement to have a "rival" opponent from the other division that you have to play every year. I used to be on the other side of this one, but if we could get out of playing Alabama every year and balance the schedule with the rest of the division, I would be all for it. I am to the point where I want to win championships, and if that means we get called girlie names for not wanting to play Bama every year, then so be it. I do not care one way or the other about the 9th game, but I do prefer a rotating schedule for all the teams in the West and to do away with having to play Bama every year. Come at me.

We also scored only 17 against Missouri who was the worst defensive team on our SEC schedule.

Helton has his work cut out for him this year imo. We should see a heavy dose of the power run game.

The team had quit, and we started a true freshman QB.

Just need competent coaches and play-callers.

Oh, he’s a next level athlete. Don’t think anyone has described him as LONG though.

What do you know that you’re not telling us? :wink2:

Six foot five. It’s on the same internet as the truck song you’re all girly over. :)

I agree lets rotate the west we will still play bama every 7? years?

I don’t assume that last statement. We’re a better program. But thy have a recruiting advantage we don’t. But yeah, that was lucky for them not to be injured. Ours was coaching incompetence

Time to change your tampon Dr. V. I hate losing to them, but I don't want them off our schedule.

We have a rotating West opponent, and each year they are usually the 2nd or 3rd best team from the West. That luck would follow us even if we had two rotating opponents. Also, our luck would be that when we lost the Gumps as an annual opponent, they would cycle down for 5-10 years during which we would otherwise have beaten them.

If the SEC does anything to the schedule I wish they would go away with football divisions. Each team gets 3-4 permanent, rotate the others so we play teams more often and then have SEC championship be 1 vs 2. I would like that more than only playing some West schools once a decade

I look at it more as they will have to play us every year. :)

while i get what Bass is saying, there's merit to this statement as well.

i don't think you have to recruit at or better than a Bama or GA level to compete. but you do have to recruit near it.

and if nothing else, over the next few years, we won't be fielding teams that are a complete physical mis match to those teams.

we will be a tougher out for sure. i look at like LSU vs. Bama. sure Bama won more than they lost, but did anyone ever watch one of those games and say "wow LSU sucks"?

nope. and LSU won enough to stay relevant, won a natty, and the conf some. same goes for Auburn.

i don't think anyone here would argue with Auburn or LSU level success over the last 10 years.

I don't think we beat WVU, but I'd love to be wrong. I don't think we'll get smoked, but expecting a huge upgrade from last season arriving as early as game 1 seems like a vision through orange-tinted Oakleys.

The thing is...NO ONE knows what to expect. Everyone thought that we would come out and destroy App St. in 2016, right? But the gains that had been achieved under the Jones regime were deteriorating, unbeknownst to those not within the program.

Similarly, it is not outside the realm of possibility that this group of young men is being led, molded, mentored by coaches that actually have an idea of what they are doing. And, even though almost no one expects us to win the game it's possible that we will surprise everyone again...this time in a good way (for us!).

If you went to 9 games and rotated the west, wouldn't you play each western division team 2 out of 3 years?

You would play three teams a year, I guess. In three years, you would play 9 games. Not sure you would get all seven teams 2 out of 3. Math is hard for me too, LOL.

I used to think like you. It is past the point where I care if we play them every year or not. I hate them a lot and love beating them, but they need to balance the schedule so we don't get the shaft every year by playing Bama. The tampon remark was sophomoric by the way.
