Yeah, bottom line is, Tennessee is no longer viewed as a top ten all time program. Literally nobody thinks that other than Tennessee folk.

Agreed. This fanbase lives in the past more than any other IMO. And the admins thrive on that. They'll keep rehashing 1998 and trotting out those guys for the next 40 years while we keep sliding further and further into irrelevance and the cellar of the SEC.

I'm staying with him at the hospital now. He's resting comfortably. His pain management has consisted of a lidocaine patch, a lidocaine drip, and hydrocodone. He slept really well last night, from 12 midnight to 8 am. He woke up in a tremendous amount of pain. The nurse said that probably going so long without the hydrocodone probably didn't help. He has to request it. I helped him get a bath and shave tonight and I think that helped him. We also ran and bought him some underwear at his request and that's made him more comfortable. I was really worried about him this morning because he was having trouble taking a deep breathe because of his pain. Hoping today was his worst day being the third day.

I appreciate so much you asking about him and I appreciate all my VN friends praying for him. If y'all knew my dad you'd have a new friend. I don't know of anyone that hasn't loved him immediately upon meeting him. Yesterday his nurse had him walking around. She was carrying his oxygen bottle and was struggling a little. Dad let go of the walker with one hand and asked if he could carry it for her. He's a much better man than I'll ever be.

He's also, literally my best friend. He has the patience of Job. Many know that my mom suffers from Alzheimer's and he almost single handily cares for her, refusing outside help. I've got him to take her to an adult daycare twice a week. My mom loves it and I told him that another day/week wouldn't be a bad thing. He says "Nope, 2 days is enough". I have mad respect for my dad.

That's great to hear. Your dad sounds like a special guy. We only get one of them, and the older we get, the more we realize what a gift our parents are.

I broke my ribs about ten years ago, and I couldn't believe how much it hurt to do anything. The meds help tremendously, especially the first week. I'm glad he's on the mend. Keep us posted.

Nailed it. People don't realize how ridiculous they look when they flash a big 98 in everybody's grill. It's weak.

Miami has been a better program than us for most of our lifetimes. While I appreciate what our Vols did in the 40s and 50s that doesn't change the fact that Miami is clearly the better program over the past 30 years
And at present.
Titles during the AP era will always be disputed. They’ve awarded teams that lost their bowl game
1938: AP #1 was TCU. They beat the mighty Tartans (a type of cloth, in case you're wondering) of Carnegie Tech, 15-7, in the Sugar Bowl...the mighty Tartans 3rd loss.

Compare that to UT, AP #2, who was also 10-0. They beat #4 Oklahoma (the Sooners only loss) 17-0 in the Orange Bowl.

That's just 1938, I could go on.

I guarantee you he has no idea of the history of the National Title.

This is correct, outsiders don't view it that way right now. Part of that is because we have struggled for so long and part of it is UT hasn't done a good enough job promoting their own history so the fans have had to do it. That makes us seem like we live in the past more than most fan bases imo.

51 and 98 are the only legitimate titles.

I'll go ahead and do the research here. We claim six.

1938: Tennessee and TCU.. Both of us won our bowl game, and TCU has AP in their corner. We have everyone else in ours. 17 other polls had us as champs. I think both TCU and Tennessee can rightfully claim it. Champs.

1940: We're one of four teams that have claims: Minnesota has the AP claim. We, Boston College, and Stanford have claims to the others. But Boston College beat us in our bowl, so eehhhh, only legitimate on technicality. Not Champs.

1950: Oklahoma has the AP and Coaches in their corner. OU then lost to Kentucky (who we beat), while we beat #3 Texas as the #4 team. Army finished as #2 at 8-0 and lost to Navy. I'd say this is a legit claim as each of the top 4 finished with at least one L. We went 11-1 with our lone loss being week2 at Mississippi State. Champs.

1951: We finished the regular season #1 but lost handily to #3 Maryland (who went undefeated that year) in the Sugar Bowl. Michigan State also went undefeated, finishing #2 in the polls, but didn't play a bowl for some reason. I say this claim is best settled between Sparty and the Terps. Not Champs.

1967: USC is recognized as National Champs ahead of us at #2. USC won their bowl against #4 Indiana, and we got edged out by two points against #3 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. Not Champs.

1998. Champs.

We claim six, largely because champions were named before the bowl games. I think three is a more realistic claim.

This is pathetic..

Tennessee is a program that has the resources and capability to win a National Championship. We have the money, the fan base, history, stadium, recruiting opportunity etc etc.

All we need is a coach and I think we have that in Pruitt.

Literally who cares if we are top 10 top 20 or top 30 at the end of the day nobody can argue that we are a school that has the opportunity to win a National Champion.

It is plain and simple you either can or can't. Kentucky, as great as they are doing this year, it doesn't matter because they will never win a National Championship. They aren't a blue collar program. For crying out loud they could win the SEC east and they still will never win a NC. they aren't a school that can. Tennessee is. Sure we have dropped and sure we have sucked and sure we need to turn things around but what remains is we have a history, a fan base, a stadium, resources and everything else that we need to win big here. No one can deny that. That is why Pruitt came here because he knows Tennessee has the opportunity to win a NC, its hard work for sure but it's possible so can we stop with the pity party.
