I want a clean energy that's actually clean and useful.
-SimontonA few injured guys appeared to be full participants, a freshman defensive lineman continues to make a move and the offensive line still looks the same.
Here are the notable observations from Tuesday…
*** During both individual periods, Tennessee’s OL (L-R) consisted of Marcus Tatum, Jahmir Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Nathan Niehaus and Drew Richmond. Chance Hall did sub a couple times for Niehaus at right guard. This is the same group Tennessee has started the last two weeks, but after Richmond was benched vs. Charlotte and Tatum was dinged up, there were questions as to what it would look like moving forward. At least for today, we have an answer.
The second group was the same as it’s been lately, too: (L-R) K’Rojhn Calbert, Jerome Carvin, Riley Locklear, Kingston Harris and Nathan Niehaus.
One funny aside with the OL: Brandon Kennedy was out in full pads, but no helmet, watching practice today.
*** In terms of injuries, Jauan Jennings was running routes on air Tuesday — something he didn’t do at all last week. His right ankle is heavily tapped and he wasn’t moving particularly swift, but he was participating. At tailback, Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan and Jeremy Banks were all out there.
*** Meanwhile, Micah Abernathy and Trevon Flowers both were going through individual drills with the safeties. Flowers wasn’t going full-speed during the tackling drill, though.
*** Both the DL and OLBs were doing a drill focusing on avoiding cut blocks. Tracy Rocker also had his unit doing lots of 4-man line work, something we saw a lot of last week against Charlotte’s run-heavy attack. Notably, John Mincey was with the first-team at end, flanking Alexis Johnson, Shy Tuttle and Kyle Phillips.
Also, after spending a couple weeks with the scout team and not playing at all for two games, Matthew Butler was back with the main DL today.
*** Tennessee’s tight ends were having a rough go of it during a pass pro period. Brian Niedermeyer was all over his group after a walk-on (couldn’t tell who in a scout team jersey but looked like maybe Nyles Gaddy) beat Dominick Wood-Anderson, Eli Wolf and LaTrell Bumphus on 3 of 4 reps. On DWA won a rep.
Until we inexplicably lost an FCS game.
How would his offense translate in this league? I think he could have us winning 7 or 8 every year, but I'm not sure how it would fare against the big dogs in this league. Don't think he could recruit well enough to compete for championships.
He never won the Big 12.Dude won the Big 12 with one of the worst programs in the conference. It’s quite possible that he repeats the feat in the Pac this year. Offense is unorthodox for sure, but he’s a winner. And I’m not familiar with him having a habit of dropping FCS games like you mention, but I know that everyone is subject to a let down now and again. Even Meyer has lost a couple head scratchers since he’s been at Ohio St, and I recall a Manning-led Vols team losing to Memphis.

Back when he was close to being our coach I was totally against it. Just didn't think he was a fit. As time went on though I've began to come around some on him. If he had a top ten roster I think that would be a show.Oklahoma faired pretty well against Georgia. Lincoln Riley’s biggest mentor is mike Leach. It would do fine. Being creative is awesome. Tennessee basically recruits itself too so i don’t have any doubts. You’re not going to beat bama by just lining up in the I and being ultra conservative.
I can't decide if its impressive that Kingston Harris is already working with the 2's on the OL, considering his position change this year.... or just a general testament to how crappy our line is. Probably the latter, but the homer in me will hope its because Harris might become a cog on the line.
Many social issue discussions turn political and should probably be avoided if that's the case. If you're unsure, post about one of these previously approved topics: sports, coffee, beer or dog poop. Hope that helps. Not to be a smart-arse, but what differentiates issues from politics? Please don't ban me.
