It's stories like these that I empathize with so much and, simultaneously, make me feel fortunate that Ashlee's battle was "only" for the first year of her life. I don't know that we'll ever completely be out of the woods but, for now, she's had nearly 2 years of healthy check-ups.
We had some (two especially) close calls but we were sharing a unit at Vanderbilt with parents of children who have grown up (literally) there. Parents whose best case scenario, after treatment, was that they get a few more years with their son or daughter. I prayed so much, and still do, for that first 18 months that I never bury my child but felt selfish sometimes doing so, knowing that there were other parents whose greatest hope was that they get tomorrow.
@SaguaroVols I'm so happy your son's battle has been victorious. Here's to many more healthy check-ups and to a complete recovery, for him and your family.
