Before Pearl I don't ever recall UT fans expecting much of anything from basketball. I honestly can't recall many UT basketball fans period, Bruce managed to awaken the fanbase.

I mean let's all be honest, UT was a 2 sport juggernaut football & Lady Vols Basketball. But we only made 2 NCAA tournaments in the 90s. Wade Houston was awful even with his son being one of our greatest players, never hit 20 wins. Kevin O'Neill was terrible as well. They hired a solid guy in Jerry Green and despite taking us going to 4 straight NCAAs he got let go. Buzz was then terrible and finally we had a legit winner in Pearl.

Sorry -- I interjected my comment into a BB convo. I wasn't really commenting on specific sports per se-- more the general mindset of the fanbase, which tends to permeate all sports to some degree. UT fans are a beaten-down lot. UGA and Auburn fans would think they could win the Kentucky Derby with a mule. UT fans would be formulating reasons we could lose with a Secretariat clone.

As far as BB, the general consensus is this is a F4 team. It's a reasonable expectation. It wouldn't be overachieving-- it would be achieving at a level commensurate with this team's ability. Would not achieving it mean the season is a failure? No. Would it be a disappointment? Sure. But IDT it would change how much most fans appreciate this team's many accomplishments, efforts and success. And it should elevate our expectations for future teams.

If it's clear that she doesn't want to resign then it's also clear she does not love this school. That should tell our AD all he needs to know.

That doesn’t tell anyone that she doesn’t lover her school..... she needs to be let go but any competitor always feels that they can fix the issues..... True competitors never quit unless being forced to quit.

I disagree. She wants the money, IMO. Anyone should be able to look at their own performance and see it sucks and is not likely to get better.

You can’t speak for what she wants.... I know if I coached a major college team..... I would constantly be looking how to fix my teams problems and issues.... quitting would be the last thing on my mind.... The person that needs to make a move is Phil as he is the one that over looks the program.

When Holly became the HC Dean Lockwood & Sharrona Reaves were hired. Neither one of them had worked under or played under Pat Summit prior to Holly hiring them they had no direct connection to the Lady Vols.

Actually that's not accurate...about Dean he's been on staff since 2004 according to his bio...but wasn't on staff during Pat's last season? I don't know that's odd.

Sorry, only Sharrona Reaves has no previous ties.
Reaves is her ace recruiter, correct?

See that's where I disagree, our fanbase as a whole is so bad about expecting way more than they should from the sports teams.

In 110 seasons Tennessee has only made a grand total of 8 Sweet Sixteen appearances (counting this year) and we've only made 1 Elite Eight appearance in program history, this is only the second team to reach 31 wins as well.

So honestly, we're in the Sweet Sixteen and that's a successful season. Anything more is honestly gravy at this point. I'd love for this team to be the first to make a Final Four, but it's not a "bust" of a season if they don't, since it's never been done in program history.
I agree, but I want more than anything to shut up all the stinkin' blue bloods who say we are not legit since we've never even made a Final Four. If we lose Thursday, I will be disappointed in the outcome of the game, but very, very satisfied with the basketball season as a whole.

IMO, UT fans set expectations too low. Many fans are happy with so much less than UT teams can achieve. The whole culture of UT has changed dramatically since the 90s. UT fans used to expect to win-- the entire sports world expected UT to win. And in the past two decades, it has become the opposite. UT fans think a great season is overachieving and a mediocre season is achieving the norm.
Passed down from the Administration.

I actually thought of Andy Kennedy almost immediately for the Alabama job.

I also think Avery Johnson will be scooped up extremely fast, he's a quality coach and treats people well. Great recruiter too.

Avery is a good guy and a good recruiter. His weakness is on the court.
