More on JJP from same poster...

He’s significantly smaller than he was last fall. Off season conditioning dropped his weight. He’s just banged up and not dealing with it very well.

I think he will be fine. He definitely looks good at times. A lot of young players go through it. He’s very instinctive. Once he gets the down the mental side and starts playing with more confidence then I believe he will quit making excuses. Will Ignont was the same way this time last year and now he looks like a completely different player.

Apparently being a redshirt freshman doesn’t matter anymore.... I remember when it was almost unheard of to play a freshman and now everyone is POd because JJP isn’t completely developed yet as a redshirt freshman who came in to the program late and had to work on pretty much every aspect of his life and career and improve in both areas.... let the kid get his feet under him before you consider him a bust guys....

I am very sympathetic to this line of thinking. Very sympathetic. I really am; however, given the hype surrounding our landing this guy most thought he would come in and be an immediate impact contributor, especially considering his competition on our roster. Again, while I am willing to perhaps be a bit more patient than some in giving the kid a chance to get there, there should be absolutely no surprise whatsoever that many are disappointed, to say the least, in his value thus far added to our team. Even more disconcerting is the open possibility that he may end up getting recruited over. Now there’s no guarantee that that will happen but just the possibility is a devastating blow to the expectations that accompanied his signature on the LOI. I am confident beyond all doubt that every single fan on this forum will be celebrating with joy and for him if in fact he ever does fulfill the promise that his commitment brought to us. jmo.

On another note the LB corps will be interesting once Tootoo and Harrison get there... it’s going to be hard to keep Harrison off the field if he has all the mental part down because he is definitely not lacking in the physical department.

The kid barely graduated High School. He has a lot to work on period. It seems like he is taking all the necessary steps and improving the way he should be. Don’t understand the early disappointment is all I’m saying. He played in 4 games last year which is more than some freshman.

That's the fans fault not the player's, jmo

I absolutely agree with that. Regarding the expectations many fans had for him when he first signed it turns out he may have been vastly overrated but I, too, thought he’d make a bigger impact before now. The fact that we’re even discussing this and the media continues to report on this saga almost on a daily basis is all the evidence one should need to realize many of us looked at the rating, the offer list, and the level of competition he played against in Georgia, and erred in our expectations. As you note, that is on us, and there’s obviously a lot of us.
