I absolutely agree with that. Regarding the expectations many fans had for him when he first signed it turns out he may have been vastly overrated but I, too, thought he’d make a bigger impact before now. The fact that we’re even discussing this and the media continues to report on this saga almost on a daily basis is all the evidence one should need to realize many of us looked at the rating, the offer list, and the level of competition he played against in Georgia, and erred in our expectations. As you note, that is on us, and there’s obviously a lot of us.

All recruiting peeps by now (if you've been following for 5+ years) should be fully aware about half of those top guys never do near what is expected...which means expectations are off base. Too many comparisons to "oh well this true freshman LT at Bama played 3 great years then went 1st round" yeah well they land multiple guys like that every year and they have busts too...they just get buried. At UT, which doesn't get near as many top 100/50 players, everything is magnified. We poured way too much hope into our lone top 50 kid from last year.

But due to human psychology, we will tend to notice/focus on their (opposing players') successes and let them set the bar, while we will tend to focus on our disappointments. Yes JJP may not pan out based on early returns, but how good do 4* Alontae and low 4* Bryce look? Big picture view.

Some are concerned about JJP as a RS freshman Were you concerned about JG as a RS freshman, or were you excited for his future? Some need to marinate longer before going into the fire full throttle. Would rather that be the case with JJP than to throw him out there too early.
