Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I guess I can just speak for myself, but I’m so tired of being bad at football and equally as tired of the idea of changing coaches if it doesn’t work out within x number of years.

Give Pruitt 10 years to get it right. I just don’t have the fight in me anymore.

Dunno about 10 years. But yeah, the constant churn of the last decade has been miserable.

If we're consistently 8-4 under Pruitt with some spikes of 10-2, 11-1, and play in the same universe with UF/UGA/Bama, the rest will sort itself out.

Two more recruiting classes just like Fulmer has said multiple times this spring.

7-8 wins this fall. 8-9 in 2020. And back to competing for the east with UGA and UF in 2021. If we somehow win 9 this fall then we'll get there a year sooner and compete for SEC in 2020 but that's optimistic.

But all this negative talk about Pruitt and his staff in recruiting, the awful overreactions on VQ and VN (I'm guessing the FB forum is worse than it's been in awhile just like VQ) are crazy to me. We have one of the best staffs in the country, not just the SEC, but anywhere. These guys are going to show real improvement this fall and we'll be going to a decent bowl this winter. The daily freakout because a 5star chooses a top 10 team over UT right now are ridiculous. Last year we sold playing time, this year its a tougher sell due to the NFL draft I'm guessing.

The bottom line is win games. Win 7+ this fall and recruiting will be much better in December/January and for the 2021 class. Patience...

The bulk of our vocal fanbase is a hot mess. It's pretty annoying honestly. A great Xs & Os coach can win 8+ with current roster. I'd like to see Pruitt get there, I'd argue being a top 25 recruiting team yearly it should be easier not harder, but we are in the SEC and the only East team that plays Bama every year. So it isn't exactly an easy path. Still 6 of our 8 SEC games are against the East, and only 2 of the teams in the East (really only 1) should be a hard loss, until proven otherwise.

So it's fair to assume we can win 4-6 SEC games each year, if that's done then winning 50% or better of the OOC isn't out of the question.

I say all that to say, I think my biggest gripe with Pruitt & the UT in general right now, is how hard they are selling the rebuild. I'd almost prefer that I'm just fed the "first time HC" stuff more, since I can see a first time HC stumbling for 3-4 years even with top tier talent. Since there learning curve is present.

Well, your last paragraph would be great and it would be hard for anyone to argue against that as very successful.

Philosophically though, I’m to the point where I am with NFL QBs. Take big swings until you know you got one early on. I don’t want to mess with the Andy Daltons of the world.

I think people get more upset that we’re not even on the same tier as our traditional rivals. Losing to Florida, Alabama and Georgia absolutely sucks. But what’s worse is when they steamroll us and we show we didn’t deserve to be out there with them.

Get us back in that mix and most people will be content.

Consistently 8-4 with spikes of 10-2 and 11-1 should be the expectation for basically any school not coached by Saban, Dabo, meyer etc.

Yeah, it's a weird spot...I'm sort of on both sides of the fence I guess.

Side 1 is we have as much talent as any other team in our conference, and far superior talent to teams we've lost to even. So the excuses and the "takes time to rebuild" just don't exactly jive with me

Side 2 is we are still under a brand new HC and we did also just change out both coordinators, so it's not like things aren't still behind compared to a few other schools

We should beat Vandy, Kentucky, USC, and Missouri every year...none of those programs have proven superior coaching or talent (based on ratings etc.) And very few SEC West teams outside of Alabama should be given losses every year. A&M once Jimbo gets rolling will be a hard one, but LSU and Auburn both haven't proven to be yearly powers. That's a good solid 5 wins that should be possible yearly in conference, if we're at least competitive with Bama/Georgia and yes even Florida it's not like asking to make the playoffs every year or anything 8+ wins yearly would be fine for me, until Pruitt has a few years of experience under his belt at least.

65% winning percentage is what most consider a pretty good/great coaching record especially for the SEC.

Good post but LSU is always going to be good at least from recent memory and for a while. Hell they are fielding good teams with Ed Orgeron and he’s borderline inbred.

Back to back 9 win regular seasons...I just don't know that I trust Orgeron, feel like at some point that train is going to derail. It is however LSU, and that state is very talent rich with little competition from in state. So that team will always be able to have talent on roster.

LSU will always be good because their cheat game is skrong.

Also, I want to call this right now, 5/10/2019 - we’re going to beat Georgia this year.
