I seen him in Las Vegas 2 weeks ago. Hes one ugly dude...

Tennessee was back in full pads Tuesday as preparation for UTEP (noon, SEC Network) continued.

The media saw two periods of practice. Here are the Volquest observations…

*** The most interesting and notable note from Tuesday was Phillip Fulmer’s presence on the field. The former Hall of Fame coach has been at every practice this fall, but today, Fulmer wasn’t in khakis and a jacket but full sweats with a practice outline in his hand. He watched the QBs, WRs and TEs, but mostly observed the offensive line, offering tips to Trey Smith, K’Rojhn Calbert, Drew Richmond and Riley Locklear, among others.

*** Tennessee’s starting OL appears unchanged from Week 2. Notably, Riley Locklear got a bit of work at both backup right tackle and center Tuesday.

*** The Vols defensive line was working a bunch on heavy four-man fronts, with Kyle Phillips, Shy Tuttle, Emmitt Gooden and Alexis Johnson al on the field together. The backup group included Matthew Butler, Paul Bain, Kingston Harris and John Mincey. During most of the first period, Tracy Rocker was less than pleased with his group.

*** Linebacker JJ Peterson was in full pads for the first time since arriving at Tennessee. The linebacker looked better in one strike-drill, but he’s clearly limited with his current conditioning. He received some choice words from multiple UT assistants about his conditioning.

*** The wideout group remains the same, with just seven scholarship guys taking real reps.

*** After playing 11 snaps in the opener against West Virginia, DE/OLB Kivon Bennett didn’t play at all Saturday against ETSU and appears to be in the doghouse. He was initially working with the scout team Tuesday before being told to run full-field laps.

*** Another maintenance day for linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. and wideout Josh Palmer, as both worked with the S&C staff during individual drills. Offensive lineman Nathan Niehaus also spent some time on the bike after participating in one OL blocking drill.

I guess you guys may have already talked about this, but I just saw it and was surprised at how bad it was:

1. Nathan Peterman, Buffalo Bills
Total QBR: 0.9

Like maybe in Week 11 last season or something, just to throw a random game out there. That's when the Bills benched Tyrod Taylor for Peterman, who promptly threw up a 0.6 QBR game (technically non-qualifying for our leaderboard because of too few plays). This Week 1 embarrassment was actually an improvement from that debut, but it was also the 12th-worst Total QBR game in the history of the statistic, which dates back to 2006.
Proven NFL starter.

They always said he practiced well, but in big crowd pressure situations he wasn't good in the SEC. I thought he had overcome that with Pitt, but.. maybe not.

I noticed DKJr taking it easy during pre-game and post-lightning warmups. When the rest of the team was side stepping and back pedaling, he was simply jogging.

Also, we have an AD that gives a damn about winning. Sees a line that needs help and jumps right back into coaching them. Respect.

I'm guessing since he missed summer conditioning and fall camp he needs six weeks of a regimented training plan to get in shape. I figure in addition to practice he has time with Fitz. Being new to college (classroom) this phase of his life has got to be borderline overwhelming. If he endures I figure by the time we go to South Carolina he'll be a full fledged G.I. Joe.
