Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I'm thinking Pruitt and staff went into this game planning to rotate players as much as possible to learn what they have and what works. They stuck with that game plan too long and Georgia State was much better than expected.

Hopefully they find combinations that somewhat work, from studying game footage, and look much better prepared this weekend. I'm not writing this season off yet.
A failing...can’t be gauged otherwise. Down one TD that soon in a game against this opponent? All the gloves off and you ride your horses...relentlessly. Georgia State didn’t start executing dead efficiently until after halftime...when I was counting on OUR coaches to make those halftime adjustments that a competent staff makes. I still expect a total 180 in this next game. If it doesn’t happen, there’s no sugarcoating. If it does, I can talk myself into thinking this epic loss was a wake up turning point for the program...until the next game. 😒

What I dont understand....

Last year we heard the staafff was very optimistic behind closed doors....same this year. What happened?

How can a team not show any more emotion before/during and after the game ?

How can coaches not show any more emotion / urgency?

3-4 years of poor line play....does not compute.

Very disappointed.....only good news - basketball is up next.

If Bailey stays committed I think we will be okay. At least with Bailey you have a QB that wants to win and has all the traits you want in a QB. Will he win us 10 games next year? Probably not, but at least he will take shots downfield, won’t hold the ball for 10 seconds, etc. I think once we get a winning attitude type QB in the system we will be okay.
Or I could be way wrong and be even more pissed next year.
He’s Bo Nix quality...which makes your COACHING better.

I'm not trying to put anyone on blast but to make the statement that a coach who has 5 NC rings, coached HS and college is making 4 million a year has "mailed it in" after the first game of his second year. Maybe the person making that statement has mailed it in as a fan. Or never had a competitive nature or played organized sports. You mail it in if you're the fry guy at McDonald's. I get a person is pissed off at the results of the team but at least be pissed off realistically. Coaching is not a fry guy.

Here’s were I’m at. Win the next one and I think we go to a bowl game, all is good. Lose and we’re back to 4-5 wins and the recruiting class falls completely apart.
Right with you. It’d be like a reboot...blank slate. Nothing forgiven or forgotten...just moving on.

To everyone paying attention to the press conference...everyone dissecting every word Pruitt says...everyone who thinks what he said means anything at all...everyone emotionally responding to every turn of phrase...

Where have you been the last decade +?

Have you not learned that these pressers are absolutely pointless and give us absolutely no insight into the program?

I could not care less what Pruitt said today.

Beat BYU. Period.

Finish with 6+ wins. Period.

Ok...last post, then I'm going outside to mow before I work tonight but...

Am I just completely disillusioned by thinking this was the team and staff doing an absolute piss-poor job of preparing for a lesser opponent and looking forward to BYU? BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I'M CONVINCING MYSELF.

I MUST BE INSANE.

I still think we beat BYU and Saturday is a "what the hell happened there" moment, when we look back on this season.

That's it. I'm insane.

I can fix her. I know I can. I love her. She'll change for me. It's not her, it me. She'll never do anything to hurt me on purpose, she's just testing the strength of our relationship. It's STRONG. I KNOW IT.

Prime example of why JG should not be the starting QB. Never even looks at anyone else but his deep target. Never saw the blitz presnap. Had 2 people wide open to check down to. Especially Marquez Callaways guy other receiver would have blocked and Callaway probably would of scored or got close to scoring with 7mins left in the game.

Instead JG never sees it and get hit in the back and fumbles. Georgia state comes out and scores on the next drive.

JG is the reason we lost the game.

How many years do you need to see Marcus Tatum fail to come to a conclusion? This other players showed flashes of greatness at some point. He has never played well, ever. MT has not been able to keep his athleticism with all the weight he has put on. Maybe he would have been a good jumbo TE which is what Florida recruited him for.

Also who the hell ever said Sutton couldn’t play?
It’s Brett Kendrick syndrome. Never the answer but we REALLY want a good story for him.

I hope we just underestimated that team and planned to use it as a scrimmage because we thought they had no shot against us. It just seemed to me that the guys didn’t care about the results, and body language was horrible for nearly the entire game. I remember looking over at my friend in the 3rd quarter and expressed that we were gonna lose that game because the body language of our players showed they weren’t trying to win. I hope we come out with a different mentality from now on. The effort from everyone involved in that game was beyond poor.

You make that one or two plays and the team feeds off of it. You slide a yard short of first down with no defender even close and the rest of the team follows suit.

Jennings came open as the safety came down too.

Don't take this the wrong way, but he never made it there. This play, and every passing play, are designed to be read a certain way. His read on this particular play appears to be right to left, long to short. An untouched secondary defender means he never made it past option 2.
Edit: I've not watched the film, so I can't be for sure at all.

My man. We have elite coordinators and plenty of talent to beat those guys. You don't get beat.. no.. DOMINATED by Georgia State even if you're a bowling coach coaching your first ever football game. He had 9 months of preparation. You just can not lose that game. You can't run -3 yards in the second half, give up 4 sacks to a terrible team, and forget to call timeout. Absolutely inexcusable for a HS Football coach, let alone at Tennessee.

I don't disagree with any of this, but it's also not firable. It's 1 game. Need cumulative evidence over a few years to make such a assive decision. Needless to repost, but it was shown earlier all the big time coaches that lost terrible games. Can't overreact.

Great visions are never met by being fickle.

Maybe that play wasn’t designed for Callaway. However JG should have seen the blitz. Also, you have to read the defense before and during the play. You can’t look down field the whole time.
