McPherson, Pasquolani and Robinson preceded him for 28 season...so I’m pretty sure Babers happened after.
Ok, yes, he followed him. But not directly. I think you made the statement that Babers did better with Marrone’s players than Marrone did, which is largely inaccurate. So nice deflection.

If that’s not what you stated, my bad.

I’m not sure I totally agree. I agree with you that they went into the game knowing they were going to shuffle everyone regardless to get everyone reps - but no matter who was out there, it was a turnstile on the offensive line.

They’re obviously not sold on anyone at any position. Which is why I don’t buy that the shuffling will stop. They did this all of last year too.

Had they not essentially done the same with the defense I might lean more toward that idea. Did anyone see Garland playing 21 snaps? Banks playing early and on critical downs.
It just screamed we re using Ga St to get reps and build depth. They just took for granted that the game was going to be won either way. The body language of the players help sell me on that.

If they roll that way again Sat nite I ll be wrong and surprised to boot.

to believe that is to believe we're on par, talent-wise, with the bottom of the barrel in the SunBelt conference. that may be true for half of the roster or so, because they just never learned how to play college football somehow, but as a team, that's not the case.

No it doesn't. It's believing we have had...and continue to look like...we have incompetence at the highest levels of the University all the way down to the coaching staff. Nobody believes that UT talent is worse than GSU, or on par with Appy St. But what everyone should believe is our coaching and university leadership and commitment to winning absolutely is on par with those schools and in the case of GSU, objectively worse. How this can even be denied at this point is inexplicable.

Get Pruitt to the point where the starting 22 are majority his players (HS prospects, not JUCO transfers). Let's see what happens when we keep coordinators in place for more than a year. I think we've got to see what else is happening in the QB room because, as much as i like JG, i think he's been conditioned not to lose instead of to win. I don't know, I just don't think blowing this up now is the way to go.

I agree there is no way to fire Pruitt this year barring some crazy scandal or we go 0-12. He gets us to 3-4 wins and he isn't going anywhere. I'm willing to give him a legitimate chance to right this thing.

I am firmly in the camp that the coaching staff was game planning for UF and BYU and almost zilch for Ga. St. and UTC.

Maybe Pruitt is still underestimating how bad the roster is and how much work needs to be done in recruiting and development and just assumed we would be able to roll GSU due to the talent difference. He hasn't really been around a bad roster in the college game until he started here. Maybe thought one offseason would be enough to fix it.

So I'm follow @LA Vol and looking at bright spots.

Henry T & Eric Gray both are SEC talent, and will be stars for a few more years with health on their side. Bituli & Bryce are two of the most talented guys on defense, we'll miss them any time they can't go. Savion & Emerson moving forward look like they should be starting on the line.

Offensively I think there isn't enough drop off in the OL to try and do this rotating players crap, pick your five already. JG doesn't seem to naturally read defenses, he has trouble at all levels here. I think this is his last year starting, regardless of if he returns next year.

DWA & Jennings & Callaway are exactly who we thought they were, FORCE THE ISSUE AND GET THEM THE ROCK.

El o el at people talking about a coaching search on September 3rd.
Nobody wants it. We all want Pruitt to be the guy. I like Pruitt personally as well as a football coach. But whatever happened Sat needs to be fixed. From looking at things, it looked to me like he took the criticism that he micromanaged last year and went way the opposite direction and turned the play calling over to Ansley completely. And I think Ansley made some serious mistakes play calling. I think Rocker made some serious mistakes in subsitutiion. I think Pruitt needs to take control and sort this mess out before Saturday.

Pruitt has been telling us since day one how bad this roster is. The fans are just now realizing it and blaming him.

That's another thing that ticked me off. Pruitt never believed they'd lose. "Just keep experimenting and we'll fix it in the 4th".
Never seemed to grasp that we weren't capable.
Heck I didnt to a point.

I just dont believe they are that unsettled on personnel to that degree.

If that was the idea it was a painfully lesson. The type some dont recover from.

You play that game another 999 times and UT wins every one of them. I say that not to gloss over what happened, but to illustrate that flukes just ****ing happen sometimes.
It was not a fluke. It very, very easily could have been a 41-23 or 45-23 final. We got a garbage time window dressing touchdown at the end to make it look closer than it was. They had the ball in plus territory on their final possession, they did not try to move the ball at all, they simply ran it into the line 3 times to kill clock and/or force us to use our timeouts. We had not been able to stop them and I have zero belief that we could have, at a minimum prevented a FG were they determined to move the ball. On our last drive they eagerly traded yards for time, by design.

I don't deal in "indictments of the program" and "Vol football is dead", etc., because it's untrue, nearly anyone can come back at any time, given the right coach and a special player or two, but let's not kid ourselves, Saturday wasn't a fluke, we were beaten soundly.

We were beaten mainly because we had an inexplicable lack of effort and want to from top to bottom, I don't know how that happens in week 1 of year 2 or really in week 1 of any year, but if we bring the same sorry level of effort to the remaining games on our schedule, we'd be lucky to win one or two. If we do actually show up and beat say BYU and South Carolina and hang with Florida, I'll take it of course, but it'll make Saturday's epic top to bottom failure of leadership all the more infuriating.

I drive back to Knoxville every other weekend to do wedding planning and that is really the best time for me to listen to UT sports podcasts and such. I remember listening to one show and I think Pruitt said they are game planning for multiple opponents. If I am wrong then someone say so, but I am 90% sure I heard that from Pruitt's mouth at one of his post-practice pressers.

Yeah, you don't do that. You focus on one team and that is the next team. May be able to do that at Bama or UGA, but like you said the talent here at UT is just not there yet. And especially the mindset of some of the players. Ainge was blasting that philosophy on his show Monday morning. Never heard him so angry before.

Anyway, that's what I am going with. Barely game planned for Ga. St. I hope Pruitt makes that mistake again. Hopefully Fulmer says something to him about that.

what I am hoping for is non life threatning storm to hit our area and take out my Directv coverage. I do hope for the best but my heart literally can not take another one !

Aside from the offense and jg’s obvious decision making troubles. I rewatched the game and it just baffles me how poorly we defended the read option. We constantly had a linebacker either flat footed or going after the wrong guy. We’ll see how good this coaching staff really is Saturday night though because BYU can run the read option and if we can learn in a week how to defend it and pull off a win it’ll restore my confidence in Pruitt and co. But for the love of god somebody PLAY WITH SOME GOD DANG ENERGY.

If anyone thinks we are going to our physical BYU on the Offensive side of the ball, you are sadly mistaken. We need to stretch the field vertical and horizontally this weekend. Their front seven is going to destroy us Saturday.

Jet sweep should be on repeat this weekend.
