I know most teams are recruiting him as a DB and we need elite players at corner, but I hope we can haul in enough blue chip corners in this class and next year where we have the option of playing him on offense. He’s just too good with the ball in his hands to not be playing offense. Or maybe he can be like Adoree Jackson or the guy that stole Peyton’s Heisman for us. I just see so much DeAnthony Thomas in him and our offense is very similar to the Chip Kelly offense they ran. The only difference is we don’t run the option as much. He would be unstoppable as the pitch man in our offense though with our wide splits
I picture him as an Eric/Evan Berry or Cordarrelle Patterson.

" Don't you see how many people he puts in the NFL? I don't care how open WRs are and I don't care if opposing QBs throw for 400 yards. At the end of the day it's about getting people to the league and not what's going on right now in front of me"
Well, isn't that more of an indictment of the defensive "bend, don't break" philosophy? I'm not sure we are ever going to be the team that scores 40 and only allows 14 against the best teams on our schedule. All that offense comes with some consequences and you just have to learn to live with it. I don't like it either, and against good teams, it gives me heart palpitations. It is what it is, and isn't necessarily reflective of Willie Martinez as a position coach as much as it is the scheme he is being asked to run to fit the scheme of his defensive coordinator.

Perhaps also an indictment of our existing talent. Maybe we should be impressed that he helped get a kid like Theo Jackson drafted given what Jackson had done prior to last year.

If Tennessee and UGA both beat beat Bama. No way Bama gets in over a Tennessee team that’s only loss is undefeated UGA.

If Tennessee beats UGA, but loses to Bama twice there is no playoff.

That being said there is a lot of football to play and Tennessee can compete with anybody this year, but they also have 4 games left on their schedule that could be losses as well.

Let’s just enjoy being 4-0 right now.

You sound like an FF thread for a reason. Go back and start your b!tch thread over there.

We went 8-5 in 2019. Most of complained big time about how bad Will Friend and Chris Weinke were. So now because we have Heupel, no assistant coach is allowed to be criticized? Sounds legit.
And blind criticism is?

'If they play bad, coaches bad.'

I'm sitting here watching the game again and a play just finished where AR had to throw it away... Reason 'he had no where to go. Good tight coverage by the secondary'...according to Gary anyway.

Point being, it's just lazy arguments one after another and if you're railing on a coach there's absolutely no other explanations or reasons...HAS to be 'coach sucks'.

So whatever.. Continue on with context free debates, pretending everything can be explained in only black and only white.

Reality is right now the talent on this defense is limited. Do you think any of them have the athleticism to run with someone like Pearsall on a route? Do they have the speed to recover if they get burned a little bit? Our safeties aren’t fantastic either.

Our defense is limited to zone coverage and hoping that we can force an offense to eventually turn the ball over.

90+% of DCs would’ve sat back on that last play. Banks brought pressure and it forced an INT.
And I applaud him for that.

By like I just said....his conservative playcalling KEPT THEM in the game.
We had them 38-21 and then we just went heavily into a preventative defense.

DBs were GREATLY improved last year from the previous year.

Decline this year was somewhat expected with personnel
Yeah mentioned that earlier.. It's not like the issues we have are brand new. Chief among concerns headed in the season was the secondary.

And shocker... They're not great.

Eh. I didn't like three play calling on offense on that last drive. That was pretty conservative especially for this offensive staff.

Defensively, the only real issue I had with play calling was on the 3rd down we had them on the goal line. Applied great pressure on first and second down, then laid off on third and they got the first down. Other than that..I didn't really have any issues with how the defense was called. Personnel dictated most of it. And our desire to not let 15's legs do any damage.
