That’s a ring worm.

From the '22 class these are the players who this year are already contributing.

Defense: Tyre West, James Pearce Jr (more so on special teams), Joshua Josephs, Dee Williams (mostly as a returner so far), Elijah Herring
Offense: Dylan Samson, Squirrel White, Justin Williams-Thomas

The class included quite a few OL guys and that position typically you RS your first year so you can condition and strength your body for the grind.

OL: Savion Herring, Brian Grant, Masai Reddick, Mo Clipper Jr, Addison Nichols

At this point it seems like a solid class, I think more of them will begin to blossom in year 3 or 4 though. A few names that have gotten praise throughout camp and the season specifically: Christian Harrison, Kalib Perry, Jordan Phillips, Chas Nimrod, Kaleb Webb

The only guys I'm not sure about are Cameron Miller (he was a top 75 WR coming outta Memphis) & Jourdan Thomas (he was a top 75 S outta Alabama)

Bold names are guys that I think will be the standouts once their careers are finished here.
Ty so much! I am going to conclude from that that our coaches know what they want and coach them.

Yeah I think this first class they went after high character kids they thought would be here 3 to 4 years and willing to develop. The DL is a group where we're able to rotate more bodies and it's why they could land some higher rated guys (West, Josephs, Pearce). Our LB depth basically could vanish after this season...Banks, Beasley, Mitchell, Page III could all leave. So I think Kalib Perry and Elijah Herring will for sure be in the rotation more as this season continues and will also be contributors next season in the 2 deep.

I could be wrong, but I don't feel like we see a lot of attrition from the '22 class. I hope that's the case at least, I think all of the guys could get developed into starters if they are willing to work hard and grind here.

To add to this, the main reason that stars matter is because it allows for quality depth. Through the football season, and especially in SEC play, you will start to take some hits on players being injured or taking damage. UGA, Bama, Ohio St have the luxury of plugging in elite backups with equal talent but less experience.

We are a fantastic team. Sometimes the stars align and you can make it through the season mostly unscathed. Sometimes you have an ELITE QB that can elevate an otherwise great-not-elite team to playoff contender status. The only teams that won with a blue chip ratio in the 50's/60's were 2013 Florida State (Winston, 53%), 2016 Clemson (Watson, 52%), 2018 Clemson (Lawrence, 61%), and 2019 LSU (Burrow, 64%). We are probably closest to the FSU and Clemson teams from the early 10's that won with potent offenses led by outstanding QB play.

I think that our schedule is finally benefitting us, along with (finally) having a staff that can develop talent. It's interesting what happens when the league doesn't set us up to be roadkill from a scheduling standpoint (either dates or kickoff times). Plus other teams are finally hitting lulls, when we were in a sustained one for way too long.

The widely agreed upon cycle of success in College Football is Recruit Elite Talent, Develop Talent to Win, Win to Recruit Elite Talent, repeat... (the longer this cycle repeats for a program, the better the program becomes)

Some coaches win to recruit, like Saban. Some recruit to win, like Kirby. They all need to get, keep, and improve elite talent to win.

I am happy that we are bucking the trend of being the best roster. But we are the exception. Some posters here are getting excited, like they've been waiting 15 years to say "I knew it! You don't need the best players to win!"

We are too early to know if this is true. We aren't even close to the postseason yet. I hope that we win out and prove a system/school of thought (that is constantly reinforced by facts) wrong.

There is a lot of binary thinking on this board when it comes to recruiting conversations and how that relates to winning.

Will simply having the best players lead to a championship? No.
Will being the best developer lead to a championship? No.

It takes culture, it takes nutrition, it takes strength training, it takes development, it takes recruiting, it takes great coaching, it takes help from things that you have no control over whatsoever. All of these things blend together to build championship football.
Your last paragraph sums up this season for UT. We have all of that this year and it appears we're building depth at the key positions, with the exception of QB. I believe we're probably gonna see a huge drop off at QB next year. Our backups are a far cry from Hooker and unless something changes we may be in for a rude awakening next year. We need to clone Hooker :):):)

Thomas has played well on special teams and has seen some action this year in the secondary

If Milton can improve his timing he can be lethal as well. He's holding the ball too long, looking for the big play every play.

I think you may be very wrong about QB play dropping off to a "huge" degree...we probably will drop off to some degree.

I hope you're wrong.
