I know this cycle isn’t over yet but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that we haven’t parlayed our success on the field into recruiting. We’d have the same class as it stands now if we were 7-5/8-4. We’re about to finish 11-1 with a likely playoff berth and these national 5 star guys that we need to keep this train rolling at its current trajectory just aren’t that interested for whatever reason. I don’t know if it’s NIL, coaching relationships, or just the general feeling that we have been so far down that this has to be a one hit wonder. Most SEC programs with our resources and on field success would make a huge recruiting jump into the top 5.

I love everything about this coaching staff and administration. They’ve done an unbelievable job this year. But we always said we were caught in the middle. Not good enough on the field to recruit at the top and not good enough at recruiting to compete on the field at the top. We always said we needed that one overachieving year for recruiting to get rolling. Well it’s here but recruiting isn’t following suit. Not saying our recruiting is bad, it’s just a pretty standard year for UT and hasn’t been bumped with the on field product.

I agree with you. I think NIL has reduced the amount of kids flipping later in the cycles so that’s working against us in this respect. However, I think our current success will be seen more in the ‘24 class.

Thank you all for the prayers and thoughts and well wishes.

Baby girl has a nasty double ear infection and RSV. Lungs are clear thank goodness. Getting amoxicillin for the infection and keeping her hydrated. Sleeping like a rock with the tylenol.
Great news Soil. Will continue to pray for her recovery.

I think all three were busts…. Do you not think John Chavis staff or Ed Orgeron could develop talent bc Donald played under both. Both Wanya and Drew transferred and have played under excellent offensive line coaches… Both had the potential to be serviceable but neither one of them were/are studs.
Show me a consistently great team that isn't built with 5 stars and high 4 stars with a few 3 stars sprinkled in. Are there outliers in the 3 star rankings? Yes but don't devoted your recruiting time to only searching for those outliers.

The key to sustained success is proven to be 5 stars and 4 stars being your primary recruiting focus and developing their talent because they have less margin to be a bust with proper coaching. There are outliers even in recruiting including bad examples A&M, Florida and Miami and we are the good example of a ranking of 19th in recruiting talent vs a #5 ranking as well as Michigan 14th vs #3 in ranking. This shows that if we can get in the higher rankings for 4 & 5 star prospects that we have a greater chance at sustained success.

Rocky Top is for all of us, however, Rocky Top is not for everybody. Some don't have what it takes, while others have different objectives and likes. Some are simply not a fit for Heup's system. They know it and he knows it.

It's OK.

To think there are less than a 100 high quality players in America each year that we just "have" to get is lubricous. I am surprised that needs to be said after the season Heup just delivered you.

As to the seasoned experience level of this team being higher than normal, how talented did they appear before Heup and staff arrived? The talent he is bringing in is greater than the talent of the older players on the current roster. We are 8-1, top 5, and have a shot to make the natty playoffs. We slayed several demons on the schedule this season, in Heup's second year.

Not interested in the recruiting "rankings matter" BS. The coaches evals on who they recruit is what matters. Are they hitting on enough of their targets on THEIR board to win games? I don't care about which players may go on to the NFL. I care about them being developed well enough to win games at UT. period. Not interested in chasing stars, just wins.

Carry on...

And luckily for Tennessee I think the administration and Heupel understand that. He’ll make whatever changes necessary to put Tennessee at the top competing for championships. And like Pate was referring to if that means letting a few positional coaches go because more accomplished ones are available then that’ll happen. Heupel isn’t “content” he wants to be the best and so does everyone at Tennessee now for the first time in a few decades. And that should be REFRESHING to EVERY vol fan

Some of this is true, but I think that CJH and AD DW understand that a great position coach being available is not a solo reason to make a change. The coach must be a fit with their vision of culture, scheme, etc.

CMR brought in pruitt as DC at uga and probably regretted it the entire time. pruitt had no concept of team or cohesion. He is the kind of person that would fire you in the middle of a game 😳

The moral of the story is first, never hire a bammer. Brain washed genetics is bad for your team’s health if you’re not in Tuscaloosa…😐

Second, be happy with whom ever CJH brings on board. For example, Coach Kodi Burns. He did not have a great resume or track record, but you can’t argue that he hasn’t been a great addition to the coaching staff.

I have zero stress if we retain every coach or if we add any. I think that these coaches are going to be offered jobs by other colleges. It won’t be lateral positions either. (As we saw repeatedly with previous coaching debacles)

In conclusion:

13-1 🤠

Signal Mountain in Grand Teton National Park. Love the view from up there!
Yep...you nailed it. A lot of people that go looking for that spot can't find it because they think it is at the end of the road...lol.

I've got a few others from that spot in June 11 on old memory cards that are just as beautiful but different.

It's been 5 years since we last went and I'm starting to get the itch to go hack again...there are just sooo many bucket list places that I've not been yet, and I can only afford one big trip out west a year...well except for this year because the dumbasses in charge have run prices up so high on everything that I couldn't to go anywhere out west.

I’d hold judgement on the 2023 class for now.

Top 5 class would have been nice, but the transfer portal is going to be very important to rebuild the roster, especially at LB/OL/TE. The portal this season could be epic once kids realize the $$$ to be made and leverage the threat alone gives them.
