The key to sustained success is proven to be 5 stars and 4 stars being your primary recruiting focus and developing their talent because they have less margin to be a bust with proper coaching. There are outliers even in recruiting including bad examples A&M, Florida and Miami and we are the good example of a ranking of 19th in recruiting talent vs a #5 ranking as well as Michigan 14th vs #3 in ranking. This shows that if we can get in the higher rankings for 4 & 5 star prospects that we have a greater chance at sustained success.

You keep changing what is being discussed but the outlier is really on the teams that have done that…. It’s 3 teams…. Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio state…. Yes that is what we need to strive to be… you don’t go from being a complete dysfunctional mess…. 3 win football team… without a good recruiting base…. To recruiting like those three teams over night.

Recruiting needs to be individualized by player…. Do I want 5 star/high 4 star players…. Yes, but I don’t want us to take them strictly bc of their rating… we need a few star players….solid depth throughout our roster and very few misses.

Clemson is a team we need to follow on our trend to greatness… they were ranked 11,9, 15, and 14 before their first title… Auburn had similar recruiting rankings before their National Championship…. The Key to Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio state is that they are the best recruiters… great coaches… and great at developing players. I don’t know why everyone keeps freaking out….. we are WAY ahead of schedule…. ENJOY it!!!!

To think there are less than a 100 high quality players in America each year that we just "have" to get is lubricous. I am surprised that needs to be said after the season Heup just delivered you.

As to the seasoned experience level of this team being higher than normal, how talented did they appear before Heup and staff arrived? The talent he is bringing in is greater than the talent of the older players on the current roster. We are 8-1, top 5, and have a shot to make the natty playoffs. We slayed several demons on the schedule this season, in Heup's second year.

Not interested in the recruiting "rankings matter" BS. The coaches evals on who they recruit is what matters. Are they hitting on enough of their targets on THEIR board to win games? I don't care about which players may go on to the NFL. I care about them being developed well enough to win games at UT. period. Not interested in chasing stars, just wins.

And I would also argue that NIL will somewhat reduce the dominance of star rankings. As teams like Miami and TAMU buy talent and waste it, that will deprive the traditional powerhouses of that talent. In an NIL world where talent is more widely distributed, or prone to wander from school to school based on who has the deepest pockets this year, development and team cohesiveness will play a bigger role than in the past. TAMU and UT are prime examples.

I love everything about this coaching staff and administration. They’ve done an unbelievable job this year. But we always said we were caught in the middle. Not good enough on the field to recruit at the top and not good enough at recruiting to compete on the field at the top. We always said we needed that one overachieving year for recruiting to get rolling. Well it’s here but recruiting isn’t following suit. Not saying our recruiting is bad, it’s just a pretty standard year for UT and hasn’t been bumped with the on field product.

Luckily it is bumping us into the elite top 5 level for the 24 & 25 classes.

agreed. a lot of hay in the barn all over the country. most of the top programs only have a few spots left. so the competition is fierce.

as for flips, i think there's going to be some, maybe several big ones. but i think for the most part that may come down to programs and their collectives making decisions on who are the "must gets", and what are they willing to do to get them.....which is what i think is happening with MIami and Florida.

it's also going to put a spot light on programs that can't play the long game, which also may be in play with Miami, and you heard Jordan Addison's complaints earlier in the year about USCw.....

gonna be interesting. proof is in the pudding, and while we may not outbid some programs for the mercenary type kid, i think we're going to wind up as one of the more reilable and consistent programs when it comes to NIL, and the trust factor will be HUGE going forward. and it'll be noticeable quickly which programs have that trust, and which don't.

right now, so much of this NIL stuff is still in the 1st impressions stage..............

I was surprised that a close with a clean sweep of our targets would be be fringe top 10. But looking at the numbers, the points for the top 10 are higher than they were last year. Do a clean sweep and land M’Pemba and we’d have somewhere around 286 points as it currently stands which wouldve been 6th last year. We’d all love that. This year it would be 7th right now, and all the teams around us have plenty of room to add more.

Because people see the correlation between rankings and dominance. No one likes feeling hopelessness when contemplating having to play UGA and Bama every year. A lot of people suspect this season is a one off, that there will be a big drop off next year and we are not bringing in strong enough classes to stay competitive with those schools....and Florida if they are going to start recruiting at that level.

I am not saying this is how I feel, just thinking on what you said, and this is what I believe is the answer as to why peopke are "freaking out"....nobody wants to sink back down.
