Friend or best friend, idk. I didn't really follow the story beyond seeing the headlines so I only have a really generalized idea of what happened. The article I read described the woman who is suing as Anna's friend.

But I mean grifting and just money being bandied about like water is pretty common in ultra wealthy circles. If you can get into them you'll find yourself collecting money without trying. F. Scott Fitzgerald talked about it when he discussed the roaring 20s and how he made and lost a fortune IRL (not just the Great Gatsby :D). Even if you had nothing when you were brought in, just being in those circles money would find you because that was the world they occupied. It was hard not to find yourself with wealth because of the various ways people spent and reinvested with friends or even provided the entire startup costs for something just to see a friend succeed.

I think Anna's problem was that she was trying get things from people that were as much on the margins as she was. The people just a step outside but who were otherwise fairly well connected but nonetheless people who might be well of enough to float you a serious loan but who also couldn't afford to forget about a large debt.

The friend/bf from Knoxville was just someone with the right job but definitely not the coin.
