I think Pitt tells us if we can beat UF. Florida resembles us this year. Good offense but only so so on defense. We're going to need Tillman and the other skills guys to show up. We have home field and I think we have a better offense. If we play a 4 quarter game instead of just a 1st or 2nd half game we can win. Right now, I think our offense is better but Pitt will tell us a lot more.

I think this ushers Florida vs Tennessee at 330. Was hoping for a 7pm kick off. Next week determines if GameDay is in town but it'll be like the Tebow days so my ass won't be in that crowd.

Florida had a LOT of luck last night. Every ball bounced their way and if one of those lucky moments doesn't happen, they lose. I think Tennessee can have a defense that causes problems for Richardson. It'll be his first road game this year and it'll be intense.

Utah looked dead in the 2nd quarter from the humidity. I've seen that look from teams that aren't used to it, coming down here for soccer. They were boneheads waaaay too many times. Give your QB a bootleg and tell him it's there as a throw, a run or hitting a fan in row 4. Personally, on that "4th down stand" I think Utah got in twice. Utah has to be better in getting that reviewed. Utah's QB broke the plain before being down.

It has been anywhere from 100-107 degrees in LA and surrounding areas this week. I’m surprised they had anybody attend. Those that did are actually UCLA football fans (which aren’t many obviously).
Pitiful as it seems, down in the replies it said video was taken late in late when UCLA already had game in hand and on the sunny side of the stadium. Also doesn't help thei stadium is no where near campus. However none of this would deter most SEC fan bases form; at least maintaining 50% capacity till the end.

I posted the ESPN FPI Top 25 on Friday morning showing us jumping up to #12 from #24. We actually started the season at #25 in the FPI but UNC “only” beat Florida A&M 56-24 in week 0 so they fell from #19 to #30 and everyone in between moved up so that’s how we got to #24. I think UNC was penalized in the algorithm for allowing FAMU to score 24 points or maybe margin of win. jmo.

UNC fell farther after giving up 62 points to Appy yesterday. They’re now at #34.

Vandy had jumped from #108 to #64 after their performance against Hawaii but fell down to #79 after their game against Elon yesterday. They’re probably on their way back down to triple digits. jmo.

Everything is relative to everyone else and I don’t know all the data in the model’s algorithm but every game is loaded into the computers every night and the droid spits out an updated ranking list based on how everyone is doing relative to everyone else football-wise. Winning and losing is important but I think the math goes beyond just that and measures performance on a more detailed level and relative to history. jmo.

When I was a kid in middle school and high school every week during football season when the AP poll would come out I’d grab the newspaper and my football magazines, sit down at the kitchen table and start pouring over the rankings and schedules to see who would have to lose for us to move up. I’ve been doing that my whole life. It’s just that now computers have taken over much of the work.

I’m explaining this because this morning ESPN FPI has moved us up to #10 because after yesterday they’ve dropped Auburn from #11 to #27 and Oklahoma fell from #8 to #11. Even though both teams won the model was not overly impressed with their performances, at least not as much as it was impressed with ours. LSU was #10 Friday morning but today they’re at #12 awaiting FSU’s arrival at the Superdome. Depending on how that game goes it could potentially affect our ranking. I’m guessing LSU would have to have a really dominate performance to move back above us. I don’t think just winning will be enough. jmo.

So now the only 2 opponents on our schedule ranked above us in the FPI are Alabama (#1) and Georgia (now at #2 having jumped above Ohio State after week 1).

Kentucky fell a couple spots to #20, Florida moved up to #24, Pitt is at #25, South Carolina is at #45, Missouri is at #46, Akron is at #126, and UT-Martin isn’t ranked in the FPI being an FCS school but Sagarin has them as the #168 best team in the FBS/FCS universe.

So we’ve gotta take care of business this weekend (preferably in a dominate way), come home for a spirited scrimmage against Akron, stop Anthony Richardson before he crosses the line of scrimmage (we gotta make him beat us with is arm), survive our march through death valley and come home healthy and fired up ready to bring down the elephants. We’ve done it before; we can do it again. #GoVols.

Dumb questions are well just dumb 🤣 sorry. Never a gater win just never..
My thought was, assuming we win, I would rather play FL after they win. My premise is after they beat a more highly ranked KY team, their ranking and egos will get super inflated. The FL love will be deafening from most of the media. The naysayers will say we don't have a chance. Then we steal their joy! Having said all that, I most enjoy seeing FL, then Bama, then GA lose a game, in that order.

This type of stuff usually doesn't play out in our favor when it comes to this matchup. Florida as a program is apparently immune to bad/unlucky things happening to them. It's absolutely infuriating.

If we do not spy AR every play somebody needs fired. Add in every throw is a Milton type laser. Utah was absolutely awful at tackling. They were not pumped up and did everything to help UF win. I guess the heat was a factor. Even with all that they still should have won. Don't fumble at the one foot line and don't throw a pick when the worse thing that can happen is a FG to tie the game and go into OT.

^^^ Those are the keys to the game against UF. Their D is mediocre at best and their O is one dimensional.

Florida was underrated by pundits all off season. I have said for a while this was a great opportunity for Florida to pull an upset. Utah's AD scheduling a game AT the Swamp in September when Utah's average monthly relative humidity is 51.4 percent and Florida's is 74.5 was begging for disaster to strike them. If you schedule this game at this time, you have to take it to a neutral site. There's simply no way for a college team to prepare for a game in an environment that different. It's hard enough for teams in the Southeast to deal with the Swamp in September.

With that said, Florida's offense was surprising but their defense did nothing all game long. They were very fortunate that Utah's QB threw that pass because despite everything Utah should've closed it out on them (and going into it I had UF all the way). If we get past Pitt, Florida is going to be a huge test. Both teams have offense but both have serious questions regarding defense.

For reference - Utah was 14th in total offense last year and we were 7th. So the gators are definitely not as bad as we hoped they'd be but our offense should be able to score on them.
You can’t compare apples to oranges. Utah has always had a physical slow offense. Plus they play in the PAC 12 where we have seen how bad those teams truly are. If Utah played our schedule, I doubt they would have had a top 50 offense while having to play Georgia, Bama, UF, etc.

Geez what a lame week 1. All scratch top 25 except for 1 team goes down to an unranked team...of course Florida. Smh
You just have to look past the marquee matchups. UNC and App State was insane and Arkansas vs. Cinci was also a great game. The Utah and Florida game went down to the wire which was a fun game to watch, also.
