Idk how I feel about skipping the bowl games. I get it, super happy for Hyatt, but just makes it feel like bowl games are about pointless unless you're in the CFP. I wish the best for Hyatt, awesome to see such improvement in a year. He gave us some awesome memories.
They have been pointless for years but still fun and enjoyable.

Just think how different it would have been if Currie had not gone rogue and been fired. Leach would have been our HC as he agreed to come to UT.
And within a few years the usual fans would've hated him if he hadn't won a championship. Ten wins wouldn't have been enough. And now, instead of praising him we would've been claiming good riddance.

It seems to have worked out fine this way.

There’s currently a thread on wildcat lair where they’re discussing how 2022 five star OT signee and highest ranked kid in the class ….. Is overweight and the staff is moving him to guard because he isn’t a tackle.

Dang that sucks. lol

Major problem you are ignoring...those are the same two "defensive secondary paradigm changing" players that literally EVERYBODY else wants.

You want them to just get somebody, but why is a guy like say Grimes worth the f'n trouble? From what I have seen of him, he hasn't done any better than what we have already, or anybody we have coming in...you are just blinded to that fact by those 5 shiny *s he USED to have by his name.

I for one don't see the point of just adding portal bodies just to be adding a portal body. We have 6...f'n..6 talented highschool recruits coming in that the staff DOES want and DOES think can make a difference in time...why the hell is that not enough of a commitment to the DB positions for you?

Imo..we ain't getting any "Big name" high-dollar DB recruits from the portal, so you and Bass might as well fire up your bitchfest for the long-haul....because it ain't gonna happen to suit you.

I think after all the HS kids are in the fold, they will eventually sign a couple portal guys, but I guarantee you it won't be anybody that you or Bass will get excited about.
You make a lot of assumptions. I don't want us to take portal bodies just to be adding a portal body. That's dumb. I want us to take players that I, not some recruiting service, but I, believe are better than who we have so we can see better play.

I love who we have coming in, but once again, they will be freshmen. Perhaps you're ignoring that simple fact, or maybe you're okay with our secondary being subpar until they're ready? Maybe you've finally talked yourself up to believing it's okay for us to be bad? But I, @Bassmaster_Vol , @InVOLuntary , and some others see the potential for our defense to get better. And we want it to get better. But talking about it causes your panties to bunch.

And how do you know who we'd get excited about? If they make this team better, I'm excited about them. Because I want to see us win. I'm not the one who predicts doom and gloom and then claims reverse jinx.

In the grand scheme of things, bowls are irrelevant unless it’s in the BCS.

It’s a way to reward the teams for their hard work, commitment and performance all year.

Who wouldn’t want free gear, some cash, a trip to a new and different place to experience the local activities?

I know that Sony PlayStation sponsored the Fiesta bowl for a few years and the players all got free PS consoles. Hell yeah!

Definitely should pare down the number of bowls but hey it’s more college football for all of us to watch.

It's funny. Volnation goes from "we don't need to be playing/starting freshmen" to "We have 5 freshmen DBs coming in"

Love it. Lmao
It seems you don't realize how this works. Freshmen become sophomores, then juniors, etc. Guess what else, they typically get better.

And if we lose freshmen that we want, we'll be in the same boat in years to come, no talent. And no, we can't count on loading up on the portal as some seem to think. Hope that helps.

Love it. Lmao

They better be with all the playing time they'll get after all those "three and scores". And we'd better have a kicker that can hit 12-15 extra points a game.
I'll probably hear from the forum police for this, but we need an impact LB from the portal for next season. Single biggest need IMO. You don't want to rush the young guys before they're ready. If we could find someone in the portal to step into Banks role next season, that would be ideal.

Unless Tillman is still struggling from his injury he really could've helped himself in the Orange Bowl. If he were to play and have a big game it would quell a lot of concerns and raise his draft stock back up.
No it wouldn’t. But what could happen is that he nags his injury and isn’t right for the combine and he hurts his draft stock. He has put enough on tape so far to show what he can do. Now he needs to get healthy so he can show out for the combine.

So clear starters for Orange Bowl are now Bru, Keyton, and Squirrel (those 3 were in the top 5 for receptions on the team with Tillman/Hyatt)

We won't have Holiday or Calloway (both in portal). Walker likely is in the rotation/game and then you wonder if we see any of the other freshmen WRs Nimrod or Webb. The rest of the WR group is non scholarship guys.

In other words we'll have 6 scholarship WRs going into the game.
I would love to see both Nimrod and Webb get to play.

Selfishly I would have loved to have had him for another year, but this is the right decision for him. So excited for him and hope he goes Rd 1!
Agreed. I might feel differently if we were playing for a title, but we're not. And as much as we fans want to beat the piss out of Clemson, it's not worth an injury that could derail his future. At worst, I think he's a second-round pick, and I honestly think there's a chance he sneaks into the late first-round. No reason to jeopardize that. Plus, getting players drafted that high helps us in the long run.

Added benefit is Squirrel gets more experience.

So our linebackers next year will be:
Juwan Mitchell Grad
Aaron Beasley Grad
Kwauze Garland R-SR
Kalib Perry SO
Elijah Herring SO
Jackson Hannah R-SR
Arion Carter FR
Jalen Smith FR
Jeremiah Telander FR

Then several players that'll probably never see the field but there: Bolton, Albright, Bigelow, Gaca, Shuler.

Yeah, it would be nice to bring in a transfer that would fit in the 2-deep.
