My oldest daughter is graduating from HS today. It was only a minute ago that we were giving her a bath in the kitchen sink and were scared to death that we were going to hurt her or she was going to be too cold. It was only 45 seconds ago that she was heading off to school for the first time with her little backpack on and we were so excited and terrified because she was going to be out of our care for a big part of the day. It was only 30 seconds ago that she started middle school and we struggled to find the right place for her so that she could learn and grow well into the young lady that she has become. It was only 15 seconds ago that she passed her driver's test and no longer needed me to drive her to school and we watched her pull out of the driveway and head out to school and work on her own, scared to death and excited of how out of control we were in her life anymore. Today marks an ending, but not the end. Today is another milestone for a young lady and our family, as she takes the next step towards finding her place and her way in this world. We will always be here for her and will never stop being her parents. We will never stop loving her with an immense unfailing love. Many tears will be shed today, and my wife may cry some too. To those of you on here with young kids, do not take one single moment for granted. One minute you are giving them a bath in the kitchen sink and the next they are walking across the stage at their HS graduation. Life is short, but it is filled with opportunities to make memories. Don't waste those opportunities doing other things. Be present with your family and be intentional with them. Other things will come and go, but there will not be another opportunity to play Pretty Pretty Princess with your daughters or to rough house with your sons. Have a wonderfully blessed day VN!
The wife and I are empty nesters and I must say, "Good riddance to the entitled, selfish, ingrates. The wife and I are moving to the beach to spend their inheritance."

Just kidding. Your post hits me in the feelz too. I miss what we "had" at each relationship stage, and love what we have at this stage. I am incredibly proud of our kids...er... adults. I miss having them all to ourselves, but am excited to see what they have become and are becoming when given to the world.

(We'll still probably move to the beach and spend their inheritance, though.)

I get that we hate him, but I agree with him. The media doesn’t do enough research before putting out hit jobs. It is the same with the Knoxville media.

I’m not saying the hire was good.

Yeah, but how much research can you expect them to do? These coaches are making multi-millions per year and have staffs well into the dozens of people around them (not even counting university administrative staff they have access to in the AD).

The local news outlet probably has 2 or 3 folks involved with covering sports, they don't have the time (or connections) to reach out to former coaches or players that Dowell Loggains might have worked with during one of his many short term jobs as he hopped around.

He was at the Titans from 2008-2013 (his longest job in one place)

Then a year with the browns, then he was at the Bears from 2015-2017, then a year with Miami then two years with the Jets, then he was at Arkansas a couple years....I mean when did he even work with Sean Payton or Bill Parcells? (names Beamer himself dropped).

Risk millions to play in a meaningless game to get a school record? Anyone questioning Hyatt making the wrong decision is lying to themselves if they were given the same opportunity.

That’s not at all what I said. Me questioning what I think I would do if I were a potential first round pick that’s just short of a school record does not equal me thinking he made the wrong decision. That’s also why I said “but we’re talking millions of dollars on the line”.. meaning, I think I’d want to play, doesn’t mean I would.

I said multiple times yesterday that I think it was a tough decision but that he made the right decision and he did so with a very good support group around him.

They are a business. They are looking to make money. If they say something and some people love it and others hate it, that’s perfect for them bc everyone will interact with that information.

That’s what this country loves - capitalism. Go make as much money as possible.

If you want the media to do more research, you’re gonna need to start a non-profit news org. The other option is gov’t controlled media. How’s that sound?

Not applicable in this case. The media did plenty of research on his hire...the guy has quite a terrible track record as an OC in the NFL. He was known for leading some of the worst offenses in the league. Beamer can't handle any scrutiny at all and is more narcissistic than Butch ever was.

I can't imagine being that close to having my name etched in the school record book with a #1 by it and not playing.
He also has 2 of the 3 requirements for consideration of having his jersey retired. In TN’s last four games, he scored 1 TD. He needed 6 more TDs to tie for career leader in receiving TDs. He would have needed to play next year to set some career records.

Must complete 3 of the following for consideration:
  • SEC Player of the Year
  • National Award (Player of the Year, Sullivan, or similar honor) - Biletnikoff winner
  • First-Team All-American - AP 1st team
  • Career record holder in a significant category (as determined by the committee) at the UT, SEC, or national level upon completion of career - needs 1,045 more yards or 6 more TDs to tie the all-time career leaders for receiving yards or TDs.
  • National championship during tenure

Unfortunately, the pen is mightier than the losing coach's tenure. You can be right wrongly, and that is a lesson that many never learn, or learn too late.

His own “research” seems a bit flawed and highly questionable. If he had consulted with this Bears fan, I could have gently informed him…but I wouldn’t. 😉 Crap offensive mind…repeatedly proven.
It's a losing argument to list all of the big-time coaches he's worked with. The past tense is a bit damaging. Why isn't he still working for them? Oh yah, Shane mentioned that. "I guess you looked at his stats and..."

To put it simply

He'll implement a pro style offense like A&M has, or the one Tony Elliot installed at UVA that made Brennan Armstrong go from 4,400 Yds 31 TD 10 INT....to 2200 7 TD 12 INT

The thing is there isn't a single player that comes outta HS to play Power 5 football whose ultimate goal is to get drafted and play in the NFL. As fans we'd love a full 4 years with every player, especially the ones that are great and help our team be successful but that's not what's best for them and their goals with the game.

I think your first sentence reads the opposite of what I think you are trying to say, but I agree with what you’re trying to say if I’m right. He made the right decision for himself and his long term goals.

SIAP but Shane Beamer does not handle criticism in the media well lol….

He has had an awful lot of stops in "big time" spots to have wound up as the TE coach at 2/3 tier SEC football program. Maybe he turns out to be a killer OC at Scar, but something tells me that Dowell Logains and Shades Beamer will depart the Scar payroll together in roughly two years from now.

She must be an EE.

She is actually just going to work during the spring semester. Maybe take a couple of classes at Motlow before starting MTSU in the fall. She wants to be a teacher and I am excited for her with the diverse myriad of paths and opportunities that teachers now have to provide their skills to young people.

Hooker was damn close to meeting requirements.
  • SEC Player of the Year - 2022 SEC Offensive Player of the Year (AP, Coaches & USA Today)
  • National Award (Player of the Year, Sullivan, or similar honor) - Doesn't appear he won any, but was a finalist for Walter Camp, Maxwell, Manning, Johnny Unitas,
  • First-Team All-American - (assuming they don't count All-SEC First team here? He was only Third Team All-American from AP and Second Team All-American from CBS
  • Career record holder in a significant category (as determined by the committee) at the UT, SEC, or national level upon completion of career - Career Completion %
  • National championship during tenure
