Tbf the last point is against the other two. Dooley left us worse off than ever with his crap recruiting. Butch did one hell of a rebuild. Unfortunately it was built on paper walls.

Butch got very lucky with Jalen Hurd, Derek Barnett, Todd Kelly, Josh Malone, Jauan Jennings, Daniel Bituli, JRM, Rashaan Gaulden, Kyle Phillips, Jack Jones, Brett Kendrick, Josh Smith, Jashon Robertson, Drew Richmond, Trevor Daniel, Aaron Medley all being instate. Evan Berry, Nigel Warrior, and Khalil McKenzie were legacies. Josh Dobbs flipped right at signing day from Arizona State due to being closer to home and TN Aeronautical Engineering Program. Shy Tuttle lived just a few hours away.

Those legacy classes were so cool. Though they didn't end up doing much. And Richmond, man...legendary NSD fax...not so much the career.

Speaking of...did that kid ever pan out who went to oklahoma? Highly rated from Tennessee that everyone said didn't like contact?
Was that Reggie Grimes? Last I heard he wasn’t putting up that many stats, but I might be wrong on that.

Give the Devil his Due though. Butch was able to sell those classes (and us) on a future. Cade Mays went elsewhere and wouldn't give us the time a day after Butch was out so it wasn't just the fact a few legacies were bound here and they'd come play for anyone. It helped but it wasn't everything for every player. (I think Khalil and the Berry twins were always coming home but there are others that I don't think would've just jumped on board because of the legacy pull).

Had he been less sensitive to what others had to say about him, Butch might have even made a better go of things here. But of all the coaches we've had, I've never seen one that needed affirmation as badly as Butch. Kiffin is that way as well but he left before he got that needy and/or before fans got restless that he hadn't done enough with what he had.

I'm just glad that not only do we have a good coach but we have one who doesn't seem to need us all to sing his praises 24/7. I don't think Heupel will enjoy the criticism anymore than anyone else when it inevitably happens but he doesn't seem to need his ego stroked constantly and legitimately appears to be secure in himself.

😂 This reminded me of the time with a preK kid during nap time. He motioned me over to tell me he had to go to the restroom to hark. He was whispering so I wasn’t sure I heard him right and asked a couple more times before I decided I better let him go. He was always coming up with something but had a desperate look on his face. He got in there, and I heard a really loud hock and lots of spitting. He came out looking so relieved. So it’s hock, hawk or hark.
