RIP Willis Reed.
I remember as a 9th grader working for hours on taking a high rebound off the boards, twisting in air, and two-handing it past the halfcourt to start a fastbreak before coming down. I had seen Willis do it in a playoff game, to lead the Bullets to an upset win over a better team, and it captured my imagination. (can't remember now if it was against the Knicks or Celtics)

Was blessed to play ball into my 50s, and that rebound-pass move would always bring the youngbloods around to ask about it between games... and so I'd get to tell them about the great Willis Reed.

Late edit: mea culpa follows later in the thread. Yes, I was thinking of Wes Unseld, not Willis Reed.

Thought he played his whole career with the Knicks.

I thought I remembered Wes Unseld doing something like that for the Bullets, but am probably misremembering.

From Wikipedia:

Oh dear. I'm that age now. I swear I can only visualize him in that ugly Bullets jersey.

At least my memories of Michael Jordan leading the Lakers to all those championships are still intact.

Yes--Wes Unseld! Okay Lord. I'm done with this brain. Take me home...
