I think he had this specific team play this way because it was their best chance at success.

I think we will be offensive moving forward with the younger talent. Dillione, Phillips, ZZ, Aidoo, Edwards, etc. I think the scheme will change a lot.
As it should.

Phillips is gone brother. Like chasing the wind. Only 5*s that hang around are Hubbs and JJJ type players. And do we really want that…idk

issue with a search is how many big timers want this job?

2nd fiddle to football, SEC schedule, not a blue blood, unreasonable expectations. so then you go after a pearl type, end up with Buzz Peterson.
People are too obsessed with a big timer…. You just have to hire the right coach.

This fan base after anything negative. Y’all want to fire the best thing that’s happened to this program in our history after losing the heart and soul of the team one week before postseason play and still making it to the Sweet 16. Should we have won last night? Maybe. But that’s no reason to go lopping off heads.

I haven’t actually seen the post calling for him to be fired.

Once again, we find that Super Coach is sitting by his phone, waiting for some one to call him about that Tennessee job.

If only we had the nerve to take action and give him a call! He would save us!

This post is so 1997.

I don't think expectations are unreasonable at all for basketball. Ave while we're not a blue blood... Between pearl and Barnes this program has been absolutely relevant nationally for the better part 20 years.

It's been proven you can recruit here... You can win at a very high level... And that this program does in fact matter to this fan base.

Philips - 5 star
Edwards - 4 star
JJJ - 5 star
Vescovi - 4 star
Etc.

We are talented. Not coached well on offense. FAU was not good at shooting, they just got every rebound and kept chunking it up. We should have blown them out.

FAU was a 3 loss team but because they play in a weaker conference everyone just assumed we'd roll them. They are the only team in the Sweet 16 with a top 50 offense and defense. Our fanbase is just so dismissive of opponents it's crazy at times.

Then you take into account the fact us without ZZ = bad matchup against them and it was just not a good spot to be in. I think had we played the 2nd half with the same focus we did the first half (especially the first 12 minutes) then we should have beaten them, but we've faded in nearly every 2nd half since losing ZZ, Ole Miss was the only time it didn't happen. No "closers" left once he went down I guess.

I just don't get it Houston enters as a 1 seed with their 3 losses, 100th ranked offense, 2nd ranked defense and a 92nd SOS they beat Virginia in the regular season all 3 losses were at home.

FAU enters as a 9 seed with their 3 losses, 37th ranked offense, 41st ranked defense and a 120th SOS they beat Florida in the regular season (ended up not being a quality win though) and all 3 losses were on the road.

If FAU was a "name" they would have been the overall 1 seed with those numbers exactly as they are.

They are a great team, had we treated them like Duke or Alabama or Texas or Kansas we could have won though, but we didn't and we lost.

Agreed. It's not like that playing this slogging style offensively had been the mo since he's been here.

And once zz was not an option... Things just got harder. Defense will always be the backbone for Barnes, but I've never gotten there impression he's married to any particular style of offense?

Held one of the most prolific offenses in CBB to 62 pts. Missed 12-15 points in layups and free throws.

We managed the game the way we needed to. Questionable reffing, timeout usage, rotation criticism aside - we were capable of winning last night and just didn't make the shots.

Like baseball last year, this team was a national championship contender but this wasn't our most talented team.

Time to move on but I'm holding this team up there with Grant and Admiral's. All these seniors hung around and got better every year and they played every game with more effort than any team I've probably ever seen. They overperformed compared to their talent level and the injuries.

Plus, we beat Duke, Bama, Kansas, and Texas. Sweet 16 is something to be proud about.
This.👍

I wish someone could have seen it last night. The guy was sitting on the bench with his hands in his pockets with 8 minutes left. I think he is the type of person who says I have coached them hard all year. They know what they need to do. You saw last night coaches who were consistently up and down, and implementing defenses or changing plays mid possession. CRB is part of the reason we are relevant every year, but he is also the reason that younger plays don't progress early and we fail come tourney time. I hate to say this.

You mean getting significant playing time early in the season matters?

15-2 run.

I'm not really that disappointed...I had a feeling making the Sweet Sixteen (especially beating Duke) would be "enough" for this team. Not all of them, Santi, Mashack, Aidoo, and ZZ for sure wanted more.

But having watched Uros, ON, JJJ and Key all year it just felt like these guys don't have that dog in them like you want. Good players, but role players at best. At times role players can have big nights when they are just confident and making shots, but it's never consistent and sort of fades. They seemed worn down in general, and I think that's part of why the team stumbled the way it did into the tournament.

Now...after the Texas win sitting at 18-3 had you said "this team is going to lose in the Sweet Sixteen to a 9 seed" I would have 100% said that's a disappointing end.

But sitting at 22-9 to end the year with JJJ, Phillips, Key all having missed multiple games AND ZZ is done for the year had you said "this team is going to lose in the Sweet Sixteen to a 9 seed" I'm sitting here thinking "damn, proud of them to have made it that far!"

I think during the regular season…. Our defensive intensity over powers team… in the tourney…. Everyone’s intensity increases so the difference isn’t as great….we struggle moving the ball and getting guys good, open shots.
Agreed. Also think the season long defensive intensity wears them out so when March comes they are physically and mentally whipped. Definitely need a better O system and hopefully he follows CPHS lead when she saw her O issue, she went and learned a new system (Bulls triangle). Just my opinion.

CRB took them as far as the talent and his ability would let them go. Good season. Exasperating at times, but SS is the program's cap currently.

Danny will ride with CRB until he retires as long as they make the tourney. Same with CKH.

G play and shooting. It's that simple. Which is recruiting and NIL. It's that simple also. Overly intense focus on D reduces the skillset and creativity on O. It's that simple as well.

The later point was proven to be true even under Pat Summitt. Coach K and Izzo learned it and adapted to it. Bobby Knight is an example of a coach who never did, yet his team manager who beat us last night did. If you care about recruiting guys to take you to the higher level, our Vol HC needs to understand it as well.

Clear the dead wood and start over. You have some good pieces to retain to build with and win games.

CRB's best recruit would be a strong offensive assistant coach who can recruit as has already been pointed out by Jackrevol.

Let's focus on Heupball and football time in TN.
