Not to me...I've been screaming how huge a loss he is since before the season ended.

I don't think people understand how huge he was for our success.
I think we do. I don’t think others understand how much better our OL coach is than what we’ve been trotting out there since Fulmer’s heyday. Two years ago, Wright wasn’t the beast that just got drafted by my Bears.

Tennessee's problems were a lot deeper than just the product on the field too, there were DEEP seated administrative issues from the people running the show to the boosters. Luckily, that finally getting fixed seems to have coincided with hiring a good, young coach that was up to the task of fixing a dumpster fire. You are 100% correct imo, Tennessee was maybe THE toughest job in the country when you consider the issues beyond just what was on the field, and there were MANY on-field issues. vs the size and expectation levels of the fanbase.
A series of steps that had to fall in place. First Boyd takes over the overall mess with a superstar Chancellor already situated. Then hiring a homerun AD who muted out the dissident background noise and hired the right HC who wasn’t frightened by the overwhelming challenge. Without all that being solidified, no coach has success. We’d been witness for 15 years.

Facts. I'm still shocked that we seem to have gotten it all right, given the precedent.

True. People keep missing this point. He made our lives miserable with a bunch of no-names when he was the O-line coach at Mizzou.

Are you really gonna argue that the LSU program was nuked as bad as ours had been for 12+ years? LSU was not the butt of decade long nationwide ridicule when he took over and it is way easier to get your talent situation fixed at LSU than here.

He would have NEVER taken a job like the one Heupel took on.
Nick is one of the best coaches of all time….. he wouldn’t have been scared and would have been successful here…. He coached at Toledo, Mich State, LSU, and Bama…. He was also considered a great defensive mind in the NFL That does not negate the amazing job that Heup has done here…. We are very lucky to have him.

there are laptops that can get blown up in a car bomb and still send emails, I don't think the dancing robots are worried about us
I always thought it would be a single, basement living, face wearing clown with human hair standing over me as I drew my last breath. Now, I know it will be a ****ing dancing dog robot dressed as Pennywise who will thrust the paw blade forth.

I think he is a big loss and I don’t want to negate what he did for us…. That being said…. The most important person on the line is the left tackle and we made that work using Mincy and Crawford…….. such a great a job that Elarbee did with them.

Help! Is there a marine biologist here?!

Agreed, the moment you changed the name you lost the connection. And you kind of had to change the name too.. Oilers in TN? Just doesn’t mix. Made perfect sense in Texas, but not TN. Wearing Oiler throwbacks or pushing an Oilers campaign is just dumb by the Titans.

That's what Jed's family said.

I don't know how bad the roster was or wasn't compared to ours when Saban took over. They'd had a similar run of being terrible though. They only finished the season ranked twice in the 90s.
We were a nationwide joke that a lot of knowledgeable people (even a lot of us, guys like LWSvol) had written off forever as a national power when Heupel took over...LSU was not the same situation and I'm not going to argue it...everybody knew LSU was a good coach away back then and even when they struggle now.

Exactly what I'm saying

Wright always had the latent talent and I don't see anybody on the OL right now with that much latent ability to coach up..I agree we have a really good Ol coach, and I think, or at least I hope, they can put a decent OL out there.

I just don't see anybody doing as well as DW this year...I don't think people realize how special of a year he had...Joe is just not (probably) going to have the time to throw that HH had against elite SEC pass rushers, and the running game is going to suffer some against good defenses also...the question then...is how much.

I hope it is unfounded concern...we will see.

Wright stonewalled the SECs best pass rushers...period....and yes I agree Elarbee did a great job with them...but neither one of them is going in the top 10 next year.

Why did anyone write us off? We were still recruiting good even though we hired morons…… Tennessee falling down had everything to do with the administration and hiring Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt….. fix administration and the right coach…. We are back in two years….. people overreact so much.

He stone walled Alabamas best pass rusher…. The majority of the best pass rushers are going against the left tackle…. Teams prefer the best psd rusher to attack the backside of the qb.
