What the Japanese did across China was just appalling and unspeakable. Good reason they are still strongly shunned across many Eastern regions.

It's wild to think of all the atrocities and treatment of people just 80 years ago across the globe and at home. And just 80 years before that we had literal slaves in our own country. It melts my brain.

And we still have many more ways to go, but a far better world than in the past. Global sunlight is the best of disinfectants. Among rising global literacy, less poverty, more freedom, more womens rights, less hunger, less slavery, things are getting there slowly but surely.
I'm listening to Dan Martin right now. He's recounting the history of Japan's rise to power pre WWII. Agree about how horrible they treated the Chinese. Also it was such a heinously bad decision to sign on with the Axis powers. Heinously bad

Calculus for me. Only spoke 2 words of English.

ā€œDo Thisā€

When asked to explain why and how, the only response was ā€œDo Thisā€ absolutely sure that she also only understood ā€œDo This ā€œ

Couldnā€™t have dropped the class any quicker.
Took me a while to get through Calculus because none of them spoke English.
Then I got lucky and found Wally. He was an actual American. He could explain the processes in English! Calculus still sucked but at least I knew why and how it sucked.
Iā€™m still bitter about the weed out courses required for medical school: Calculus, Physics and Organic Chemistry. The courses were okay, but it was almost like UTK hired the worst professors to torture students with aspirations to go to med schoolā€¦šŸ˜ˆ
Same experience here with physics. Guy was asian with a very, very heavy accent. Rarely faced the class so it was always a pain to hear him and when we could, it was hard to understand him. Got the same guy in back to back quarters. Dropped each time and on the third go round, I got a prof I could hear and understand. They should have put that guy on TV like they did with Kleinfelter. Rather enjoyed the TV class and TA setup.

My US History teacher's name was Dr Chen, was on loan from University of Beijing. Sat down, made it to first break, and dropped the class. I could not understand a word that poor man said, not his fault. I'm just hard of hearing I guess.

So when I went to UT, as an elective, I took a history course titled The Age of Chivalry. The course description led me to believe that it was about the age of the Knights, Long bowmen, etc. Sounded fascinating. At the bottom of the description, it said can only drop class with the professorā€™s permission.

I get to the class and the professor states that the class will be entirely based on the writings of Chaucer. I immediately raised my hand and asked if I was in the wrong class. I had signed up for a history class and she was telling us that it was a literature class instead. She smiled and said you are in the correct class. Speak to me after class.
After class, she confirmed that it was only going to be about Chaucer. I asked her to let me drop it. She said no. I stated that the course description was very misleading and that I had to study Chaucer in High School. I really didnā€™t want to go into Chaucer again. She took it personally and and wouldnā€™t sign the drop slip. I then asked her to direct me to the department Chair Person because I really didnā€™t want to take the class. (It was an upper level History class required for History majors.)
Her response: You have already spoken to the department Chair and she totally agrees with me.
I was stuck. Being the hardheaded person that I am. Every paper that I wrote was about actually about the History of the Age of Chivalry. Nothing about Chaucerā€™s writings. I received a ā€œCā€ on every paper with a comment about not appropriate content. At the end of the quarter, my grade was a C. She said that it was the highest grade that she had ever ā€œgivenā€ a non history majorā€¦last history course that I took. Sucked, because I had considered getting a minor in History. I find much of it very fascinating. (Especially since I have lived through most of it)

The final paper was about a monumental change in the world of the time. My paper was on the stirrup and how without itā€™s invention, the warfare of the time would have no Knights or cavalry chargesā€¦

I hate Chaucer šŸ˜ˆ

My daughter has had multiple sprained ankles and the athletic trainer recommended surgeryā€¦.. That would put her out too long as this will be her last year playing college basketballā€¦. She is in pain all the time especially with plantarflexion and inversionā€¦ The trainer said that her ligaments have been over stretched too many timesā€¦. Does anyone have any success with any strengthening exercises for that issue so she can alleviate the pain some?

First and foremost, get her an appointment with a fellowship trained Foot and Ankle Specialist (Orthopedic Surgeon). Donā€™t just depend upon the trainers opinion. I wouldnā€™t consider anything without an MRI. No ligaments need surgery unless they are a significant grade II or a definite grade III.

Did they try her in an ASO Speed Lacer ankle support? Get her one and see how she feels wearing it. It will protect her ankle from further injury and allow the ligaments to tighten up.

After the MRI, I would try PRP injections first. Could definitely help her heal. Must be from a doctor proficient with ultrasound to guide yhe needle to the correct areas. Beware of clinics thst only do PRP or STEM cell injections. Usually way overpriced and will inject whatever you want as they base medical need on your walletā€¦

bull sharks can swim over dykes and eat you in a swimming hole.

gold panning in the Outback, a small storm miles away can cause massive flooding that will carry you for miles.

That said, bucket list.

Why wonā€™t Bull sharks eat the lesbian instead? Why do they swim over the dykes?

I know that is totally insensitive, but as a scientist, I need to knowā€¦šŸ˜³

I posted a video of the audiobook "blindsight" by Peter Watts. Hoped someone would have commented if they've read it. Have any of you read this book? Is it good?

Took calculus at UTK and couldnā€™t understand a word the teacher said either. Luckily the Final was comprehensive. I was close to failing going in to it and pulled out an A, which is what he gave me for the class. I busted my ass studying for that Final.

Thank you so much

I think this is definitely a legitimate concern after we arrived early and had a great season last year. Taking a step back after a great year does get the grumbling going. I still think we are in the 8-4, 9-3 range though and that really should be acceptable imo.
I think 9-3 is our floor but I donā€™t think people should base their feelings on how the season plays outā€¦. 8-4 and even 7-5 can be acceptable depending on several factors that happen during the season. I donā€™t really care about grumbling bc I donā€™t think it will affect DWā€™s decision making.

My wife was told this same thing through school. Should have done the surgery and regrets not doing it now. When just walking straight she rolls her ankles. When in school the best she could do is wear ankle braces. Best of luck to your daughter.

Try PRP injections. Can still help tighten the ligaments.

Older treatment that I have had lots of success with is called Prolotherapy. A mildly irritating agent is injected in a pepper shaker pattern along the ligaments. It induces new inflammatory responses that then trigger healing of the injured ligaments. I use a mixture of 50% Dextrose and lidocaine. Very effective. Unfortunately, a lot of insurances donā€™t pay for the prolo (cpt code M0076).
I code it 20550 which is a code for ligament or tendon injection. Gets paid since thatā€™s the code and itā€™s not illegal or false claims.

Prolotherapy is short for Proliferative Therapy.
Itā€™s uncomfortable if the doctor doesnā€™t know how to do it and/or doesnā€™t mix lidocaine in too. Good luck.šŸ‘

I would also get her ASO Speed Lacer ankle braces. Especially if she does prolo or PRP. If the ligaments are that lax, then she still needs the braces or the ligaments will never tighten up properly.

Imo they saw in the Axis like-minded powers that were stratocracies at minimum, military dictatorships at worst. The sort of good folks they'd like to deal with šŸ˜’

Credit to them and ze Germans though. Total turnarounds since. Once countries focus on cooperative trade and economy, rather than tribalistic battles over resources, it's like things get better magically.

Both Saban and Smart were big winners starting Y2 just like Heupel.

Umm, neither of them had the talent disparity that CJH came into. Most of the transfers were paid players, not no talents.
All CJH had was players with want to.

Kirby had a highly rated team in year 1 and still stunk it upā€¦ uga and bama are always stocked with 4 and 5 * guys. No actual comparison.

I still think CJH is a better coach. With some talent, he can out scheme the competition. Just wait until the talent level is close to equal.

bama and uga blowouts are on the horizon! Just watch!

Be prepared for 15-0 šŸ¤  this year! And more in future years as the playoffs expand. šŸ¤
To infinity and beyond!
