The concerns over potential weather issues by numerous analysts and pros about having the PGA Championship in upstate NY in May have proven to be accurately assessed. What a mess and what a shame. It is on one of the more iconic golf courses in professional golf, yet it has been reduced to mudding and hydroplaning golf balls out of seemingly foot high roughs and wet sand when not playing out of puddles on fairways and greens.
I had this discussion with a friend, who didn’t like that there was a frost delay on Thursday. The only thing is that the PGA Tour (not PGA of America) moved their schedule around for the FedEx playoffs to put the PGA Championship in May. April and May are more volatile months because of temperature changes. It is unfortunate, but would that eliminate any course above the Mason-Dixon Line? Playing Southern Hills in Tulsa in August can be brutal, so there is always going to be something. Not sure there is a great answer, but I believe the next two years will be in Louisville and Frisco.
