5: Fresh Sea Trout/Redfish - Id throw pompano/whiting in here, for tacos
4: Sea Bass
3: Grouper (Red or Black)
2: Flounder
1: Cobia -Swordfish is another good one
Yeah, Ive not exactly travelled the world.Solid list but I prefer the oilier “fishy tasting fish”. Spanish mackerel steaks are amazing when fresh caught. Also if you are ever in Alaska or sometimes Seattle order Halibut cheeks…..awesome. Sablefish (black cod locally) is hard to find but one of the best ever.
i caught one of the biggest bass i ever caught with a top water that i hit in the head just as he breeched to feed. it'll never happen again. but it was awesome....Yeah, Ive not exactly travelled the world.
Cant imagine Spanish/blues/jacks or any middle tier having anything other than an oily/fishy taste.
Imagine if Spanish were 25" + 10lbs plus. Mean and ornery.
Went out for Reds on fly, in the Gales near Paris Island last week. Damn redfish were acting like Rainbows. Isolatory, sipping insects off topwater.
People talk about LA for Redfish. Targeted easily 20-30 fish that day, not one under 25". Hooked an absolute bruiser in the weeds, and pulled fly out of his mouth. Cast to one fish, doinked him on the head, that was easily 31". Hooked one, 24-25", and leader broke in half...
If you fly fish, you'll know what I mean...

This trip was crazy. Watched a gale form over head and literally throw 40+ mph wind at us, out of nowhere. Then 30 minutes later, back to sippin'.i caught one of the biggest bass i ever caught with a top water that i hit in the head just as he breeched to feed. it'll never happen again. but it was awesome....
yeah, i was just out on my kayak, toward the end of the day and i saw the activity about 80 yards or so away so i figured WTH, i'll just throw it over it, and drag it across the top and see what happens. This trip was crazy. Similarly, biggest fish of the day, was casting to another spot. Saw him rise, and plunked him in head. It happens that way. But you still have to make the cast.
absolutely! lets see some pics.yeah, i was just out on my kayak, toward the end of the day and i saw the activity about 80 yards or so away so i figured WTH, i'll just throw it over it, and drag it across the top and see what happens.
best short cast ever........... lol. "better lucky than good" comes to mind.
Do you like Brook Trout? This trip was crazy. Watched a gale form over head and literally throw 40+ mph wind at us, out of nowhere. Then 30 minutes later, back to sippin'.

i'm not sure what the USGA can do to the course to stiffen it up. they were talking about harder pin placements, but i'm not sure that's necessarily what's warranted here if it makes the course play "unnatural". they can't narrow the fairways, so driver will be in play. and while they can do some things with the greens, roll 'em, shave 'em etc....you can get a little crazy and burn them out.I'm not digging this US Open so far. Not typical set up, guys shooting this much under par just doesn't feel right.
Normally we get to see a course that makes pros seem human. I realize Cali had atypical weather which stunted the rough but disappointed so far..
Ive never really targeted them.Do you like Brook Trout?
Yes small creeks is where I fish at Brook and Large mouth Bass is what I like to fish forIve never really targeted them.
About once a year, I make it up to Lamar Alexander - I'm sure there ar Brookies up there, but likely waay high up toward NC. Its my understanding you have to get back into the sticks, like miles to find them.
Unless you luck out and catch a stocked fish in around the lakes.
I am addicted to inshore fishing for reds...artificials only, no live or dead bait. I keep having people tell me to go to Louisiana for reds, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of challenge to catching them out there. I'll be going after them all next week in Florida and they spook easy in that clear water. Weather is looking rough all week, so I'm leaving the kayak and will be stuck to dock and wade fishing. Nowhere else I'd rather be despite the forecast. Should be some big trout this year too.Yeah, Ive not exactly travelled the world.

Florida gets hammered. Lots of boat traffic = super skiddish fish. trade off is you may see a Cuda, Jack, Black Drum, or Tarpon at any time.I am addicted to inshore fishing for reds...artificials only, no live or dead bait. No wind + course isn't dried out like it would normally be this time of year = insane scores for a US Open.i'm not sure what the USGA can do to the course to stiffen it up. they were talking about harder pin placements, but i'm not sure that's necessarily what's warranted here if it makes the course play "unnatural". they can't narrow the fairways, so driver will be in play. and while they can do some things with the greens, roll 'em, shave 'em etc....you can get a little crazy and burn them out.
but unless we see several guys really get low and make it compelling that way, i don't know how much harder they can make unless mother nature helps some along the way.
