@nicksjuzunk can have himself a nice summer y'all... But if he's not back for game threads and we lose a game... Lawdamercy
The Braves have been and are a regional team since coming to Atlanta in the 60’s . Most southern states didn’t have professional sports teams at the time. So from the Carolinas to Louisiana southern Kentucky and south of that are Braves country. The Braves are the only team that galvanizes the south eastern United States. The fall is a funny time of the to me . We all hate the sec teams we are playing against in football that week but both sides are cheering for the Braves.
I got a Hank Aaron card as a prize from a chewing gum machine. Put in $.25 and got a piece of gum and a card. Usually just bad cards. It was at a baseball card shop in the 80's. The guy who owned the shop must've accidentally filled it with the Aaron card. He saw that I won it and desperately tried to buy it back, .This one….1966 Aaron
Mint condition……$10,000
PSA of 6……$300
Hindsight is obviously 20/20…..but I wish I had taken better care of my old cards…..I got a Hank Aaron card as a prize from a chewing gum machine. Put in $.25 and got a piece of gum and a card. I've still get it here somewhere, my luck its been eaten by pack rats. . . anyway, it's worth about $350 now I think. It was worth about $80-$125 back then.
The Braves have benefited for years by being a regional franchise. Basically they were and are the only show in town during the summer with no football going on. You also had Ted Turner and the birth of the TbS superstation that broadcasted every Braves game all over the south for years. Generation after generation of fans in the south grew up watching and becoming Braves fans. The Braves now are truly a national team. They draw huge crowds even playing on the road.I was surprised to learn the Braves are the "home team" even in Charlotte when I moved there. It makes sense geographically but still seemed odd for Charlotte to root for an Atlanta team!
I watched the replay and saw what you saw but, ya know, at that game, in the stands, I never for one second thought they were going to win and I don’t think anyone around me did either. It was like we all knew our Vols could pull it out…and when they did - so much joy…Rewatching the bammer game for the first time and I am just still in shock we were able to win that game. 21 seconds bammer looks like they have an easy FG to win it and you blink and we are kicking the game winner on the other side........still just in awe.
MLB forced that narrative. Its no longer a blue collar sport. The Braves have benefited for years by being a regional franchise.
