What is actually going on? I haven’t paid that much attention. Thought I understood that the SC ruled that schools would not be involved in NIL so the NCAA could not either. If it is separate and legal for recruits, what exactly is the NCAA trying to do to control it? How is anything they do not going to bring on another lawsuit? Why are states even having to pass laws to keep them out of the NIL?

It's a bunch of separate things but they all boil down to states and schools not wanting NIL to be separate and wanting to turn NIL into buying recruits outright without restriction -- things like wanting NIL donations to be tax write offs as though they were the same thing as donating to a school, using NIL donations to buy access to recruits (things boosters weren't allowed before and really shouldn't be allowed now either), trying to force NIL deals to be the same thing as a commitment to sign or play for an institution, laws stating the NCAA can't even look at a NIL program to see whether or not you're playing by the rules etc. Basically, state level law makers and schools are trying to legislate an unfair advantage for their institution and tell the NCAA they can't do their job.

It's Kirby's Law and the legislation passed by the state of Georgia a few years ago to insulate UGA from the same scrutiny as any other team on steroids. People are trying to have it both ways - they want to participate in NCAA events but they don't want to follow the rules that apply to everyone.

Yeah he definitely won't do that again...

When UF gives you a bigger punishment than the state. This guy was caught dead to rights. It's documented. DAs don't plead cases like that because those are the ones there's no risk of losing. This only happens when Dad is rich and famous. If you wouldn't do it for Joe Noone who comes from a crappy neighborhood and has zero influence, you ought to be flogged for doing it for a guy with enough wealth and influence to survive a guilty verdict and still have a life after his time's served.

So it’s a big mess. Did not end up being as simple as what everyone was saying that it would. There were some of us that said this would happen and we’re laughed at. But never imagined it would get to this extreme this quickly.

Rich enough for his kid to afflicted with Affluenza.
He was a career backup whose forte was getting better QBs started in their journey…and spot starting. Now he’s a high school football coach with a net worth of (give or take if Celebrity Net Worth website is to be believed) $12 million. Nothing to sneeze at…to be sure. But that’s not “eff you if you don’t free my boy!” capital either. Thinking this is more DA playing it safe and getting the sure win. Not uncommon.
