Oh, absolutely. The centralization of smaller states into larger states (Germany, Italy, etc) had a lot to do with that. Instead of having small wars between small states, we traded for large scale war by mega states.What's really interesting is going into the 1800s Europe and what led to WW1. It took decades and decades to come to that precipice. Much to do with the Germanic and Slavic states...nationalism and racialism at its heart.
You could probably go back to 1880 and tweak a few things and avoid all of WW1...WW2...Hitler...and much more.
