Since the subject of nutrition has come up again, I'll toss out one that kinda blew my mind...
I recently had my first kidney stone. While searching for remedies, I read up on the herb phyllanthus niruri, and started drinking a tea of it several times a day. Don't know where I am with the stone, but the crazy thing is that after 2 weeks or so, my fasting glucose dropped 15 or 20 points.
Because I am genetically at risk for cognitive decline, I try hard to keep sugar down (it's a risk factor). I'm not diabetic, but mine stays stubbornly high (fbg is often 100-110) and I've had little luck moving it. To see fbg in the mid 80s is not normal for me, even taking Metformin.
Had brunch today, omelette with a nice order of breakfast potatoes...2hr postprandial sugar was *86*...unheard of for me.
Not sure what the impact to a diabetic would be, but anyone with marginal sugar should be able to benefit. It does take 2+ weeks for the effect to kick in, but it's absolutely been worth it for me.
