People can scoff all they want at the Tim Banks quote (more or less, "our defense, on average, was good outside of the USCjr game") but here is the cold, hard fact:

Exclude the USCjr game, as he mentioned, and this defense only allowed 19.9 PPG which would be 18th nationally (out of 131 teams)...in the 86th percentile.

OH and that was with the fastest offensive team in the country. We faced more plays, due to mere pace, than anyone but a handful of teams in the whole country. Not too shabby 🤔😏

Yea, take out that game, and people aren’t even discussing this. Yes, I realize that game left a bad taste. But he said that game was an anamoly, which it really was.

Get better in the secondary.

Our offense also dictated how other teams had to attack us. A lot more passes to defend + more defensive plays. We weren't bad on defense stat-wise. . . but we could watch and see that we could be better. If our defense ever gets as good as our offense, no one will beat us.

So your issue wasn't the fact that they spoke with Russian accents. You wanted them speaking in Russian, and you want to read the subtitles. That's not my preference for movies, but whatever floats your boat.
I feel like people keep missing the fact that Jack is a communist. He doesn't need subtitles. He knows Russian.

Supernova in the East is a great listen… I read Chris Wallace’s Countdown to 1945 just before I listened to this, inadvertently. Pairing the two together, it’s hard to say Truman did anything other than make the only possible decision. I mean, there were Japanese Gorilla soldiers fighting 29 years after the war ended that would only stop when relieved by their commanding officer… CRAZY!
There was no way they could leave that insane regime in place...none. It would have been disaster after disaster after disaster over the years...millions and millions more would have died because of them.

But some will forwever ignore all stats and facts and only see the negatives. There WERE negatives. Major ones. But they don't wash out all the positives as well. Garner has the front on lock down. We KNOW Martinez's top ability. Just let them develop some legit talent back there and things will only get better!
And he followed up the worst showing of the year with a shut out!

Gets no credit for that either.

Read 'The Pacific', while viewing the series. The Allies were getting their butts kicked in the Pacific at one point. Early on, Imperialism was well on its way into China and beyond.

Really was a fascinating read. Things truly could have gone on for many more years. I fully believe Hirohito would have fought to the very last man & woman, resulting in Guerilla warfare.

It's well documented in letters & correspondences (as there were very few survivors), that some, if not the toughest fighting in the War came at Iwo & Okinawa (Pelilieu, Phillipines, Guad in their own right). Those men, including my Grandad & 3rd Marines wouldve had to take Mainland Japan.

No one wanted that fight. Japanese fighters were flying their planes into carriers, and yes, even after all the vegetation was removed from the islands - Japanese fighters were still hold up in the vast caves and tunnels they'd spent years building - waiting for orders.

Nukes were the only answer. Read once Truman had originally planned to detonate over Tokyo. But Nagasaki & Hiroshima were chosen afterward.

I've got a sneaky suspicion that we'll rush 3-4, give their qb 10-15 seconds, sit back in zone and give receivers 10-15 yards of cushion. Not sure why I feel that way, maybe a dream or something.

That’s actually classified as a nightmare. We have been there done that and don’t ever want to see that again. 😐😡

Gave up 30+ two other times than USC. When you average 48 on offense, you will win a bunch of games. Sure, it’s got to get better. But it’s not as awful as some are saying. Just get better in the secondary.
But you know, we love to belittle our own.

Yes, the defense was bad at times, especially vs usce. But he was asked about it. I guess some of our fans want him to publicly answer the way they would.
