The biggest reason for the collapse in that game besides the focus/lazy issue, was that SC completely threw out their playbook and went way off script...nobody saw that coming and it was such a huge change that they could not adjust in game. And it's a knee jerk, lazy reaction.
I felt then, and I believe it's proven now, that that game was an anomaly. I believe the players were believing their hype, reading their press, and lost that focus and edge they had all season (because the talent wasn't there to sleep walk like Georgia could). They were listening to the coaches after that game and it showed.
The program will benefit long term from the learning lesson that game provided (from the humbling through humiliation)
Everybody was expecting Sid Bream, and, instead got McGriff on a tear. The biggest reason for the collapse in that game besides the focus/lazy issue, was that SC completely threw out their playbook and went way off script...nobody saw that coming and it was such a huge change that they could not adjust in game.
Y’all really going to worry about this when we have the #1 offense?
I think the reason for the RBs lower YPG this year was a result of DCs realizing that the running game is what really makes this offense work. I think several of them focused on it.Worry - nope. The discussion was about Small versus Wright and what potentially losing Wright to the portal means.
Let's not kid ourselves. Opponents are spending a lot of time this offseason working on how to stop this scheme. We will not be able to outscore opponents consistently without a decent defense and an upgrade of talent in some key positions on O - one of which has to be RB.
My point is Sampson projects to be better than both and I hope that is what we see from all RB's going forward.

People acting like we've seen the full playbook.
Like I heard they would after last year...after 3 seasons destroying it UCF...at Mizzou...and so on.
These guys had all the tape they could ever gather and yet we got better. There's no slowing this offense down, only we can to ourselves. There's no scheme to beat it, unless you just have an entire NFL defense, at home, and get really lucky how we punish ourselves via penalties and missing every single big play.
Otherwise...if you just miss one of those elements...you're f'n toast.
I recognize obvious improvement in the stat that matters, and don't be a jackass, of course I want them to be better, but I ain't going to bitch about it all day every day.
I think the young guys will come in and help, and the defense will at least be static this year. If we can finish 4th in PPG again, then we will win 9-11 games.
I think the defense could be scary good in a couple of years...it doesn't have to happen overnight.
It was because we literally ran fewer times per game About 4.25 fewer carry attempts/game.I think the reason for the RBs lower YPG this year was a result of DCs realizing that the running game is what really makes this offense work. I think several of them focused on it.
Not only the freshmen, there's a few returning secondary guys who played decent when healthy. You could see some improvement as the year progressed.Yet according to AP, we're not looking for secondary help from the portal. That means it rests on the freshmen to fix our secondary. That's a lot to ask of freshmen.
You forgot about Tyree West and also add in Bradley as well.I have a feeling the secondary is going to look a lot better next year. For one, I really like the DB's we have coming in, but more importantly I think the pass rush is going to take a leap next year. Byron Young is gone, but Baron/Harrison will progress a bit, Pearce/Josephs looked really good in limited time that should increase, and who knows what might be added by Herring/Bradley/Weathersby. Add in one more year of comfort in Banks' scheme and one more year of Garner development to that and that can cover a lot of the secondary's weaknesses.
Hard to see progress when you actually believe we had one the the worst secondaries in FBS As ole Wheezy does. Not only the freshmen, there's a few returning secondary guys who played decent when healthy. You could see some improvement as the year progressed.
There will be teams that have a good enough defense to slow this offense down. It's what Georgia did this year. We have to have a good enough defense to slow other offenses down as well. More teams will follow Georgia's example and gameplan this offense well in advance of the actual game.Worry - nope.
