Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Turned us down before but that was Hamilton at the helm and potential serious sanctions cloud over our program. Hart and no NCAA trouble is more attractive but our conference may not be.

Things may have changed alot in the eyes of Williams. Make the call.

I hate how Neyland doesn't get the props he deserves when people mention great coaches. Bear Bryant surely never beat him smh. #Legend

Byrd, Marshall, or Pearl. That's my top 3 anyway.

The bolded are my two favorites but unsure about Byrd. My question would be about his recruiting skills but then again he does seem like the kind of coach that can get he best out of what he has to work with. That is why I am high on Marshall and Pearl(of course).

The resemblance in that picture is eerie in the most positive way. I think the picture of Butch was taken after the Vols upset USCe last year.

I think UT baseball may make some noise this year. Going into his third year after two pretty dang good recruiting classes, Serrano is obviously excited and has this team built for a breakout year. Definitely a young and very talented team with a lot better depth like we're hoping to see with the football team in 15. Gonna be fun to watch Butch and Serrano take over the sec. Bring Bruce back and we'll have us a three-headed dynasty to look forward to :)

They swept Purdue in two dominating performances yesterday in a double header to start the season. Three pitchers combined for a one-hitter 3-0 shutout win in the opener then won the second game 20-2. Boom!

Here's a few quotes from article on UTsports. Notice the last one. We should be seeing quotes like that from the football team in a couple years. Very encouraging.

Tennessee (2-0) started Sunday with a stellar performance on the mound and ended it with an offensive explosion against the Boilermakers (0-2). The Vols took the opener, 3-0, and won game two by a dominating 20-2 margin. The Vols' 20 runs are their most scored since putting up 25 at Georgia on May 8, 2010.

"[The offense] was very encouraging. We're a tough offense," said head coach Dave Serrano. "I had to deal with it all fall and in the winter before we started. We're going to make some teams pay. Good pitching shuts down good hitting a lot of the time, but we're going to make some teams pay if they can't keep running arms out there at us. I think we showed some signs of that today.

The Vols' bats were just warming up early in the day, as freshman Nathaniel Maggio led the way with a 2-for-4 performance in game one. His classmate Nick Senzel - the second-straight true freshman to open the season in the cleanup spot (Andrew Lee) - was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Last season, Lee was the first true freshman to open the season fourth in the order since 1990.

"They are high up on both Drew Richmond and Kyle Phillips' list and in good position with both of those guys right now.

They are in it for Josh McMillon, but probably not one of his top schools. I know some teams that run a 4-3 like Tennessee kind of wonder if he's an end or a LB at the next level. He may be better suited for a 3-4 honestly.

They lead for Ugo Amadi and are in good shape with Josh Smith. He's kind of like McMillon in my opinion. I think he's going to be a DE at the next level as he continues to grow.

CJ Sanders really liked his Tennessee visit this weekend and I think it helped the Vols but he's a big guy on academics and he's already visited Stanford so they will be involved and I think Vanderbilt will be, too (if they ever get to recruiting the state again).

Tennessee is still in it with Rico McGraw and he continues to talk to Tennessee. The Vols aren't giving up there and Rico is still listening.

I'm not sure what is going to happen with Van Jefferson. Honestly, I could see Penn State as a destination for him. He liked the school before Franklin went there and he had already started to develop a relationship with him beforehand. Tennessee is continuing to recruit him, but I'm not sure where they are at for him.

Jauan Jennings is interesting. I think it depends on what Jauan wants to do as to where he ends up. He's not ready to play quarterback and he may not be a quarterback at the next level and I'm not sure what schools are going to guarantee him a shot at QB. If Tennessee does, they are in the thick of things.

Side note, I think the kid could be a terrific safety prospect. Great athlete and isn't afraid of contact. I could also see him being a receiver. But, I'm just not sure he's a quarterback."

I saw "The List" show that Finebaum hosts that listed their Top Ten SEC coaches of all-time. Bear was, of course, #1, and I think Neyland was #4 or #5. I am not sure who compiles the list, but Finebaum always gives his comments at the end, and he said that Neyland should be higher.

Sound like after terrible he says " i dont know why he recruited him...for football or at all. cant make out the last part

Mentions that it might be Tee..after listening to some of his interviews, it does sound like him.

USC is pretty much where former UT coaches go to poison their careers, so there's quite a few that could have cause to be this needlessly salty out there. That being said, it does sound like Tee. I wonder what his problem is.

2014 SEC Strength of Schedule | Saturday Down South

UT with the second hardest schedule (behind Arky) and Bama with the easiest.

Few notes:

Arkansas again has one of the country’s toughest schedules (it may be the toughest), while Tennessee is right behind them.

The Vols have the toughest non-conference schedule with Utah State, Arkansas State, Oklahoma and Chattanooga. Outside of Chattanooga, is there a win you can circle in the first three?

Alabama is the only team in the conference to have less than .500 opponents’ winning percentage. That’s two years in a row (see last year’s here) the Tide are the only team in the SEC to play opponents with a sub .500 win percentage.

On paper, Florida’s schedule doesn’t look tough, but the Gators play both Alabama and LSU in 2014, along with the rest of the SEC schedule and non-conference defending national champions, Florida State.

Ouch.

I see 247 named a new #1 on their top247. Looks to me that after the #1 commits, all a sudden they drop down in the rankings to make room for the new #1. I guess it does sell more subscriptions if #1 is still shopping himself to schools.

Now this doesn't make sense.

And Alabama with a joke of a schedule, who would have thought?
