Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I keep reading that Miss State may have a Heisman candidate at QB and that it's the most talented they've been overall since the late 90's. I thought I saw some analysts have them as a dark horse in the west.

Not saying I believe any of it but I've found that surprising.

As for Mizzou I expect a precipitous collapse. They played the easiest OOC schedule in the SEC last year and caught UF, UGA, and TAMU all at perfect times (IMO). They lost a ton this offseason. If UF and UGA can follow up excellent 2012's with disastrous 2013's with all their talent, no question Mizzou can (and will). Most overrated team in the SEC.

I heard about this Miss St stuff too. I was figuring in the schedule they would have to play against... but I just assumed that it would be strong because they play in the west. But because you posted this, I went and actually looked at their schedule.

They better have a top 5 offense.

Southern Miss
UAB
South Alabama

LSU
TAMU
Auburn
Kentucky
Arkansas
UT Martin

Alabama
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss

Really?...

Wow. I agree.

We really play a tough, tough schedule when you compare it to this.

The DL will be more talented when the new comers get here but will lack experience as a whole.

The OL has some guys that have been here a few years but also lack game experience. I've heard from a few people who know more about the team than I do that are pretty worried about the OL. Hopefully they can get it together.

Its definitely not a situation you want going into the season on the LOS. I don't care how talented one or the other of the lines may seem. The youth and inexperience will show this year.

I've seen enough from the QB to not worry about that position and I think alot of that has to do with the talent we have at WR.

Could they overachieve? Sure, but I wouldn't be putting money on it. The year after this coming year and the year after that will he the year to watch as far as seeing a drastic difference, especially if Fergy or Dobbs takes over and becomes a serviceable QB.

I do think 6-6 is attainable and expect it. Utah St. , Ark St. , Chattanooga, UK, Vandy, and Mizzou should be the wins.

I think the interior of the OL will be really solid with Crowder, Kerbyson, Weisman, and Jackson. The tackles are where it gets scary. Expect a lot of quick routes and screens to slow down the edge pressure.

I think 7 should be the bar. Anything less would be disappointing (although 6 wins and a bowl game would be nice after not going bowling in awhile but it would likely mean no "big" wins). Anything more than 7 would prove Butch is the right man for the job and the future is very bright in Knoxville. 7 wins would mean a decent season, with a good win in there, and would ensure a nice close to the '15 recruiting class. JMO

Let's get real. We still suck. We will be lucky to win 6. We will have to have a good win to get that.

Mizzou is the good win and they lost quite a few good players from last years team. We have them at home and should have a decent shot to beat them.

If Butch is any count at all he will get us to a bowl game this year.

Let's hope. We will be much improved by then. I see us struggling out of the gate.

That piece made it sound like they base every prediction off of last years results. All these teams are different. We're gonna be better. No doubt about it. I would be really surprised if we only won 4 games.

We will win 4 games...

Then we play our fifth game, gonna win it too :)
See where I am going :hi:

I think it's likely because they feel Blair is going to be fine and will start. He showed up out of shape and it took some time for him to adjust, it usually does for JUCO transfers. Good thing he was an EE. Some fans might be writing Blair off already (not saying you are) but I bet the staff has him penciled in as the starting LT.

Naww, I'm not writing him off, but I think we have one of the worst LT situations in the SEC at present moment.

Long day of recruiting but the Power T is slowly getting its respect back! #hardworkpaysoff.

I don't think we suck as much as you do, we are very young though.

USU, Ark St, UTC, UK, Mizzou and Vandy should all be W's. This is our best chance at beating UF in a very long time, they were terrible last year and have a bunch of new coaches on staff, I think that one should be a W in Knoxville as well. That's 7 wins.

No reason we can't beat Ole Miss or USCjr either, not saying we will but those are winnable games. We likely lose the others, although team 118 came damn close to beating UGA and team 119 will be better so that's winnable also.

Lucky to win 6? Nah. We win less than 7 and I'm going to be disappointed. Just like I was with only 5 wins last year.

And yes, a bowl game is a MUST to keep recruiting rolling. But just 6 wins will make recruiting tougher, this staff needs 7+ to keep the momentum going. JMO

I can see us winning 6 home games and two away games plus the bowl game. I cannot see any reason why a real fan would write this team off. We have some terrific skill players on the team now that will give most of our opponents fits. I'll bet that they will be trying to prove all the "Debbie Downers" wrong.

We got to make a bowl game. I had this debate with so many people that thought we'd win 7 last year. We currently have a five win team right now. We can develop into a 7 win team, but I seriously doubt that.

We're not the only team with unproven skill players. Let's start by not throwing the Worley worm bruisers

We should have won the UGA and Vandy games last season. That would have been the 7 wins and you would have sucked on your debate argument. I know several Vandy and UGA fans that admitted to me that they were extremely lucky to get the wins, that we should have won and deserved to win (but it didn't happen).

Are you factoring in how the teams we play currently look? We almost had 7 wins last year. Shouldve won UGA and Vandy. Win those and a bowl game and we wouldve had 8 wins. When people were predicting the wins and losses last year, they were looking at what Auburn and Mizzou did the previous year. The 2 biggest surprises in college football

You must think we are worse than last year. We were a 5 win team last year and teams like Mizzou and Vandy have taken big steps back this year.

I am seriously feeling good about every position on the roster but DT. I am very, very worried about DT. A couple injuries there and anyone's 7 win dreams become very unlikely.

We should have been a 6 win team last year had Worley not been hurt. (We would have beaten Vandy)

And Georgia should have been the upset win. I think 7 wins is very likely for next year, anything less and I will be disappointed.
