Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

We should have won the UGA and Vandy games last season. That would have been the 7 wins and you would have sucked on your debate argument. I know several Vandy and UGA fans that admitted to me that they were extremely lucky to get the wins, that we should have won and deserved to win (but it didn't happen).

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, wed all have a sweet and salty Christmas. I would of been very glad to be wrong. Very very glad.

I hope I am the biggest jinx ever and we win 8. I really do. I don't see more than 5-6.

I am seriously feeling good about every position on the roster but DT. I am very, very worried about DT. A couple injuries there and anyone's 7 win dreams become very unlikely.

DT and OT IMO. The depth at OT is worse than the depth at DT. Once we get the newcomers on campus, we will have a little more depth and at least have some bodies. We have no more newcomers coming in at OT. If we have injuries there, we might not even have a body to throw in.

So IYO, who do we lose to?

With you being in California I'm sure you're an expert on anything concerning nuts since that state is full of them. I don't understand how you can "jinx" UT into winning 8 games. I think you've got some problems.

Last year we were depleted by the end of the season. After Croom got hurt at one point in the KY game we had a true freshman QB and Josh Smith, Justin Johnson, and Pig were our 1st team passing attack. We will be a lot better on offense for sure. If Curt and Vereen can be disruptive I think AJ can assist our DTs enough up the middle on run support to say the D will be improved as well. 7-5 and bowl win to get to 8. Drinking the Ron-Aid.

Missouri is the biggest toss up.

If we need Mizzou for our 6th win, this place will be going bananas by the time that game rolls around. That would mean we are 3-6, needing to win our last 3 games. More than one poster in this thread will have cracked and be posting about how they suddenly "doubt CBJ."

I actually think either 5-7 or 7-5 is more likely than 6-6 based on the schedule. If we haven't won our 4th before Mizzou I'm not confident our young team could win out. The negative media and pressure would be pretty significant If we're sitting at 4-5 by that game I could see us winning out.

Not sure if this makes sense.

I think, based on where this team is, if there is a doubt about that game, which for me would be:

USC
Mizzou
FL
Ole Miss

Based on what we have, estimating a 30-40% success rate there would be about right. Of course, some think some of these games are clear wins, but these are the "swing games" for me this year. So my conservative guess has us winning 1-2 of these games.

I think the other games are clear wins or losses.

I think getting FL later and in Knoxville is a bonus too, hopefully after they have a deflating loss to Bama. Not rooting for Bama of course.

Fair assessment. UGA on paper should be a clear loss, I agree. But that game rarely goes according to expectation. It's a bubble game for me just based on the history of the series.

If we replaced the 1st half Peterman debacle with the 2nd half at UF, we could have won 8 last year. Obviously, we didn't win and we continue to be sore about the UF rivalry. I really want to see Florida and Georgia fall this year, but I'm not confident we will have all the pieces in place this year to make it happen.

Soon...

First off, our schedule is different this year. I'm sure you know that and this is a lost in the moment oversight because Mizzou and then Vandy are the last 2 games on our schedule. So in order to go bowling at all, we MUST will 4 games before Mizzou. The 4 most agreed candidates seem to be USU, Ark st., Chattanooga, and Kentucky, all home games, and at this point all games we'll begin the season favored to win. Now given that we have 4 and need to win the last 2, Mizzou in Neyland and Vandy in Nashville, can we pull it off? I think it's our best shot to get to a bowl but I won't write off anyone on our schedule until I see how we play in Norman. If we truly compete then I think on any given Saturday we can take anybody on our schedule but if we just half-azz show up as we did at least a couple times last year then the 6 "must-win" games are imperative. FWIW, I think we win at least 8 so we'll be bowl eligible before the Mizzou game, win out, and then go bowling. :hi:

Alright gentlemen, simple topic. Of all the LB's we signed in '14, which will have the most illustrious career at UT? Jakob Johnson will not be included due to his recent move to DE:

Chris Weatherd
Dillon Bates
Gavin Bryant
Elliott Berry
Neiko Creamer

Who do y'all have?

Sure - point that I'm making is that everyone thought Smith was the next great pass rusher after that season because he showed some promise as a freshman. The same could be true of Vereen. Hopefully not, but without a single proven producer on our Dline, I think it's going to be a tough time this fall.

That's a valid point. We always want these guys to be All-Americans. Pumping the brakes a little might not be a bad thing.

I do wonder though, how many d-line coaches did Smith and Miller go through while at UT? Consistency in the coaching staff had been pretty rare lately.

I think we're gonna close the deal sooner rather than later with Jeryl Brazil, if we haven't already. He's been tweeting Tennessee stuff and pictures of Knoxville nonstop.

I could see any of them becoming great, but I'll go with Bates.

I'm gonna say Bryant. I think all will have at least a really good career but Bryant has an incredible amount of athleticism for a Mike with a headhunter's mentality
