according to some close to and within the program, Marlin Lane might be the most significant individual who best reflects the overall culture change in the Vols' locker room. Lane not only has responded to the on-field challenges of those tailbacks nipping at his heels, most notably rookie Jalen Hurd, but Lane has completely overhauled his personal dedication to the UT program and college life. Lane now is a player coaches want speaking to prospects on visits; who's held up as an example of someone buying in and changing for the better; as a respected voice of reason, with battle scars aplenty, in the locker room who can speak of the program's long-awaited movement forward. Lane has tol recruits this is a coaching staff of its word, that can be trusted and that has followed up on their words in anything they've ever told Lane. And this after Lane had wondered aloud to confidantes if he wouldn't be best served leaving the program after some difficult times during the transition.
Dillon Bates also continues to flat-out impress. He'll have ample opportunity to make an impact on the Vols' defense much sooner than later. The legacy Vol has turned heads by his ability to grasp the game at a high level very quickly, and also by his physical skills. Bates is quicker than some had wondered, and he obviously reported in good shape. He's stronger than some had wondered as well.
Chris Weatherd turned heads late last week with just some voluntary work he opted do upon arriving into town. The JuCo linebacker will formally join the Vols coming up, but his volunteer work upon arriving on Rocky Top helped calm concerns about whether or not Weatherd could have the potential to be a fit.
