I thought Butch said he didn't need surgery?

Josh Smith @JoshSmith_25
Surgery went great. Thank you for all the prayers, calls, and support! Can't wait to be back out there! #25comeback #119

I don't see a non ee freshman taking over at DT over 2 upper classmen. Maybe McKenzie is just that good, but just from a mental standpoint of learning the defense, I can't imagine he's ready to take the starting job that soon, especially when Owen and obrien haven't played poorly.

Maybe not game 1 but I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes first string by mid year. I know everyone gets hyped about recruits too quickly sometimes but McKenzie is on another level, athletically, compared to any DT we've got on campus right now.

Either way, our DT rotation in 2015 will be the best we've had in a very long time.

Yeah he was such a strange player. There was always such high hopes for him going into every year. It made so much sense that he would just eventually break out. Then it just never happened.

Sadly I can't really think of anybody else at defensive end that was much better on those defenses while he was here.

Every year was going to be his breakout year. I seem to recall a lot of guys getting long injuries or jumping from outside to inside (Jackson, Miller). Smith was always at DE, maybe a little outside LB in the 3-4.

None of the other DL really improved either, unless I'm forgetting someone. I see what you're saying, but I think it's more of an indictment on coaching than on JS, although if he had a Vereen type work ethic, you'd think he'd have gotten better despite coaching.

It's true he didn't seem to have much help with the coaching situation. He always looked and sounded like the part. As I said, a lot of the other guys seemed to get hurt or shift positions.

He was consistently out of position which I attribute to the changing schemes year to year. Just this year we've seen a huge difference when the DEs contain the QB and turn things toward the inside. Smith seemed to forget that.

55 would crash every time. Didn't matter what happened, he ALWAYS crashed.

Contain was always a problem. It's nice to see Barnett, Maggitt, and Vereen taking care of business and also creating plays.

I'm obsessed with football, of course, but I'm also a pretty big hoops fan. I usually start the season with tempered expectations, but I get pretty into it by January/February. It's a nice diversion before spring football starts.

I follow baseball to some degree, and would like to see that team do well, but it's hard to get into those games one way or another.

If Vol baseball ever went to the college World Series I'd go in a heartbeat. I've been working some in Omaha this year, and I hear the CWS is a bunch of fun.

Vol baseball is also getting pretty loaded talent wise. We have a chance to be very, very good this year. Serrano is a great coach.

Basketball will be a train wreck for a while I fear. We deserve it in a way with how fans drove off Cuonzo in the midst of a sweet sixteen run. I never understood that.

Ya'll think Dobbs could or should gain any more weight? He put on 27 lbs over the offseason, but based on the way he sheds tackles, I think he could be a super effective runner like Dak Prescott with another 15-20 lbs on him.

I think he should and will gain some more.

What are Dobbs stats in the past two games compared to Prescott's average per game and per carry? Seems like he's doing just fine to me.

Part of is the ability to take a lot of hits. I would rather he be a little bigger, slightly less effective, but with long term sustainability.

Prescott is listed at 6'2", 230 lbs. Dobbs is listed at 6'3", 216 lbs. Worley and Peterman are both at 220. I'd guess Dobbs could put on another 5-10 and be fine. I'm not sure about much more, but I'm no expert. I'm sure the coaches and training staff have this covered.

Yep his biggest issue was playing outside of the system and not just doing his job. Barnett learned not to crash everytime in one training camp with Strip. Some people just get it and some don't. It is a lot easier to teach those things their freshman and sophomore years than trying to change what they have been doing for 3 years under 3 other coaches. it was late for Strip to break Smiths habits.

That is also what they are trying to get drilled into Hendrixs head. once Hendrix can get that mental part down he will see more time instead of them worrying about those big TD runs from him crashing and leaving a gaping hole like he did vs S. carolina

Tmw's games worth watching:

Nooners:
UGA vs UK
Oklahoma vs Baylor

Afternoon:
A&M vs Auburn
WVU vs Texas ( just to hopefully see Texas lose)

Evening:
Bama vs LSU
OSU vs MSU (go sparty)
Kansas St vs TCU

Just got home, ready for some football. Vols don't play so I can watch some teams I hate lose hopefully. Interested particularly in the UK/GA game.

Other than the Bama and OSU games, there's really nothing too good on. I don't like UGA but I'd also hate to see UK pull an upset on them and have momentum coming into our game next week.

Yeah. Best case scenario for us is that UGA rolls over UK easily. Need those guys to start giving up on the season at the same time that we peak.

I imagine UGA comes out firing on all cylinders after that embarrassment last weekend. Haven't watched a lot of UK this year, anyone have an idea on who to keep an eye on tomorrow for them?
